200a5 cdrw problem

I just discovered this place through a google search. Hopefully someone out there can help me. I was reading through the big 200a5 thread and noticed a couple of posts referring to people having problems (not the noise issue) with their cdrw drives. Unfortunately specifics weren't mentioned.
I'm having a problem trying to write to a cd. Apparently my blank cds aren't being recognized by the system. When I try copying files to a cd, the cd writing wizard says there's no disk in the drive and asks to insert a writable disk. When I look at the cd's properties, it reports 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free for multiple blank cds.
I have no problems playing audio cds and dvds.
Oh, and I've also upgraded to XP pro.
Anyone out there have the same problem? If so, how did you get it to work? I'd like to avoid a tech call or a visit to BB if at all possible.

The first thing I would do is try another brand of CDRW media. Sometimes the cheap media is not recognized in all brands of CDRW's. I do know that my HP CDRW at home will burn a CD utilizing CloneCD, where the VPR will not. Apparently the drive might have trouble reading some sectors of media if it is not of a good quality. This is just a suggestion.

I personnally never use the cheap CDRWs, becuase of problems in the past. Not saying to get the most expensive but at least some reputable brand.

I have the same problem.

I cannot burn stuff to CDRW's, so far i've only tried to burn to a sony CD-RW rated for high speed drives (4X and above).

I can burn stuff to Memorex CDR's that are rated for high speed drives.

I can burn stuff to cheap CDR's but the drive refuses to read the CD's that it burns. However i can play these in my stereo (strange).

I made a DVD with my Memorex DVD+R / + RW on a Memorex + R DVD. It plays fine on my X-Box (DVD) but when I put the disc in my 200A5 I can not play the DVD on PowerDVD or NVDVD. It states no disc detected. When I use explorer it does not show the files associated with this disc. This DVD drive should be new enough to be able to read DVD + R's. I know my second generation Sony DVD player can not read the disc, but that is an old machine from 1997 or so. Any suggestions on this issue or has anyone else tryed a DVD + R or DVD - R disc in their machine?

I too cannot read DVD-R's that I burn with a Sony DRU-500A DVD+/-RW drive. Same symptom as D_Westcott above. Is there a drive firmware update available for the drive in the vpr Matrix 220A?
