I can not bare to watch NTSC signals on my tv, it's terrible! My 65" looks horrible watching so called digital cable. But when I got upstairs to my bedroom and watch the 36" on the same channel the picture is 100xbetter!!

Is satelite any better? or must I stick to DVD for a good picture on my 65"? (hdtv excluded ofcoarse)

Satellite will look much better in my opinion when hooked up to the S-video, but honestly, it will not look near DVD quality which is probably what you would want.

PAL and NTSC Frame Rates
DVD-Video can comprise either PAL/SECAM (625-line) or NTSC (525-line) video material at frame rates of 24, 25 or 30 fps.

PAL/SECAM video uses a frame rate of 25 fps (frames per second). Source video material will be at this frame rate. Film material will have a frame rate of 24 fps and is usually played back at 25fps (to avoid frame rate conversion) and the audio is pitch corrected before the encoding begins.

NTSC video uses a frame rate of 30 (actually 29.97) fps which is identical to NTSC video material. Film material is usually converted from 24 to 30 fps by a '3/2 pulldown' whereby frames are repeated to convert the 24fps film to 30fps video. However this is not necessary for DVD since the player can carry out the frame rate conversion. Therefore the video can be stored on disc at 24fps and displayed by the player at 30 fps. The encoder embeds MPEG-2 repeat_first_field flags into the video stream to make the decoder perform 3/2 pulldown.

I think it is a problem with the viewing distance from your large screen tv. You need a larger room in order for some displays to look better.

A general rule is to view any TV picture from a distance equal to four times the screen's height or three times its diagonal. Therefore, a 25-inch TV screen can be comfortably viewed from a distance of about 6 feet. On the other hand, a 4-inch Sony TV screen looks pretty good from about a foot away.

ok I even found you a calculator that will figure out everything you need to know when considering viewing distance. It can be found here.

Pluggin in your values we find that for your 65 inch you should be about 30 feet away when viewing NTSC signals. If you switch over to a HDTV signal with a higher resolution it will allow you to sit much closer, around 10 feet.
