I don't even own a VPR matrix and I want one soooo bad.
You guys are like MAC users to me. All the complaints about the bezels falling off and video drivers that won't work and WIFI probs and such, Yet you all seem to be so cheery about it! ?
I want to be cheery too. MAC users are the same way. They would die for their MACs rather than switch. The truth is more like dying of old age waiting for the OS to catch up to the rest of the world.
hehe
think it's a cult! supwitdat?

One thing that the VPR Matrix computers have in common with the Apple computers are that they are both unique in their design and even hardware. The two companies in my opinion were not set out to create something that cloned all the other systems out there, they set out to make something unique. To me the VPR Matrix 200A5 is special because it is slim, has a slot loading DVD drive, and a beautiful wide screen. It looks different. I am not worries about the problems with the integrated wireless network card, I figure I can always buy a standalone card to use if I want. I am typing this on an Apple iMac I am reviewing and I am truley astounded by this system despite its short comings like a slower CPU than I am used to and a mouse with only one button! Yet, I think this product is a dream!

Well I think RageSlave is overstating the problems a bit. Bezels aren't "falling off" and video drivers aren't "not working". Those two specific cases are far less nasty than he makes them seem. Other cases like Ioman's busted network jack, slightly noisey harddrives or CDRW drives (totally subjective), are all problems either caused or made to be an issue by the computer user.
The bezel issue was just an issue with someone saying that the gap between the lid and the screen bezel was just a bit thick. THIS IS NITPICKING. It's like saying the gap between the door on your car and the body panel is a bit big for your taste. It's really not an issue at all but we're just reduced to finding small stuff like this because there's REALLY nothing that horrible breaking on our systems.
The videodriver issue is also not as bad. There's video drivers out there that work and work flawlessly. They're the drivers that VPR gives us on their site. However, some of us never-satisfied tweakers want THE most current NVidia drivers just because. So no one is losing sleep over that issue really, and it's not a problem at all per se. Also, note that our drivers aren't even that old and last I checked they were, of all the drivers released for widescreen notebooks, the most recent NVidia drivers being used by any manufacturer. That's good!
Lots of other small stuff can be annoying on the system but no system is without those little things. Recently it seems like the WIFI switch on people's machines is breaking, and we all know the probably the most serious flaw with the widescreen VPRs is that they have poor WIFI performance. But hey, VPR will send you a free external card as a temporary solution! Not bad. You could even sell the card on EBay and use the proceeds to score a hooker for a couple hours. Now even Dell can't hook you up with free money for a hooker!!
I'd say that while I certainly odn't like paying for faulty products, that this is probably the only major issue. Let me say clearly that beyond small quality control issues these computers are VERY SOLID.
Are we like mac (not MAC, it's not an acronym) users insofar as we do happen to really like our computers despite a few shortcomings that could have probably been ironed out, but haven't, and it's not a huge deal. I would gladly take these flaws and have all the benefits of having a really well designed computer that gets people talking about and touching it.

I( do not mean to be offensive in any way. Sarcastic yes, but offensive no.
I'mn not slamming VPR in any way. I am meerly stating how loyal VPR users seem to be. Soart of like the Macitosh if I must spell it, crowd from where I work. No problem there. More people should be dedicated to something I think.

If you can point out any brand of computer that works perfectly and nobody complains about, please let me know. I'll buy that one next!

I just got it Thursday. I will have it finished sometime this week. We will be adding a review of the Gateway 700XL system first....pretty sweet system from Gateway.

RageSlave... Don't sweat it dude. I wasn't offended and I figured you weren't trying to be offensive. I just wanted to point out that while these forums have a lot of traffic from people with gripes, the gripes are usually very minor.
S'all good.

i think those of us who went out and purchased vpr notebooks have a different way of considering our laptops because we kind of took a chance when buying them. i know that when i was hunting for a new notebook all my friends were telling me dell and sony and whatever else they had seen in the local stores.
by going out and buying a vpr, you sort of buck the trend and are willing to take a chance, sort of like mac users who sacrifice the ease of compatibility etc of a windows system for a more unique and perhaps even more user friendly system.
also, these computers (vpr and powerbooks) are downright sexy! so thats why i get concerned when there's a half millimeter gap between my screen bezel and the lid. if it was a dell i couldnt care if the bezel fell off 'cause it would look just as ugly with it or without.
