View Full Version : Buying first DVD player
I need help buying my first DVD player. I am looking at a changer at around $300 to $400 CDN that plays mp3’s. I am considering either the Panasonic DVD-CV52 or the Sony DVP-C615. I’ll be using composite video inputs (TV sucks) so progressive scan isn’t needed. Does anybody have any suggestions or comments about the two players mentioned? The player will be hooked up to a Sony STR-DE975 receiver.

I have a suggestion for a first time DVD:
You can get a gaming system called an "xbox" and a remote. It won't play mp3s, but it does do something interesting. You can "rip" audio cds to the internal harddrive, which you can organize into virtual albums.
In essence, you get a digital jukebox that plays a lightshow on the TV. I've found the system to be a lot of fun (as a DVD/HD music player). SInce it also functions as a CD player and a game machine, you may want to check it out.
The other thing I liked about the xbox was parental controls based on the DVD movie rating... my panasonic DVD doesn't have that.

Apex certainly have good features for the price, just don't expect any quality with it!
