I plan on setting up a computer running XP Pro as a router, and have multiple computer connected to it through ehternet cards, or a switch. Which firewall would be more secure for protecting the routing computer from external threats, XP's built in firewall, or NPF?

to be truthful. dust off that old PP200, install redhat, set up router and firewall. That way you save your XP box for a more useful task. I know it will be harder to setup and config compared to XP and ZoneAlarm (which is okay for home use too and is cake to set up) but the savings of recycling an old machine and using the bigger/beefer XP box for something else is worth it.

Don't mind my asking, but isn't that a little extreme? Couldn't you accomplished the same thing with a $70 Linksys | SMC | D-Link | Netgear | Siemens broadband router, or am I missing something.
But I would also use Zonealarm. Best firewall software out there.

Personally, I would use Norton Firewall. Thats actually what I use now. I've used McAfee's Firewall before and didn't like it.
Some of my friends use ZoneAlarm and they seem to like it, but they said if they had to pay for something or use an alternative, they would stick with Norton.
Good luck!:D
i agree w/ flashfire... dust off the old p200 and install a linux based firewall.
hell, there are even linux firewalls that will bootup and run off a floppy. some are really easy to setup/configure as well.
Try mandrake's offering:
