Sony is continuing to make its network strategy a reality with three new digital video recorders that have broadband connectivity and can be programmed from a cell phone.

Technology will rule our lives soon! Cool! Interesting article. No more programing the VCR!

ooooh good find. This is an awsome decision by Sony. I think that current Tivo's and Replay TV's have to dial out over the phone line to get updated program information, using the home network is a much better idea. I also like how it is a DVD-R recorder, but it always worries me when there is too much technology built in. Reminds me of the TV's with built in DVD players. If the player breaks, then you have to take the whole stupid set in eh?
With so many products using the home network, don't you think its about time broadband provideers give us a fatter pipe! I am talking 50Mbs down baby!

I was just thinking about this yesterday. I have too many things networked with autoupdates and serverlet, etc. to effectively game. That sux! If I want to play, I have to turn off things and quit progams. It's like a friggin event!

LOL I was thinking the same exact thing. I have my wifes computer, my laptop, my computer and my Xbox. Add a networked TV or media box and my gaming ping would go down the tube! We need better broadband if the connected home is going to work.

Personally I have ADSL 128/768 tapped into a T1. I dig my connection but I still have the same problem. pings will sometimes major suck if I don't manually update everything. I would go with Dual ADSL if I got this setup. Or Cable for entertainment and DSL for server and webstuff.
