Personally I think 17" inches is going way overbaord. Can you imagine lugging a laptop that big with you on business trips!? And for the home, a desktop or a regular laptop should be fine as well. I would prefer a desktop for home simply because its more upgradeable. What do you guys think about these new laptops with 16"-17" screens?

I COMPLETELY agree with you. The 17" PowerBook is just too big. I'm a frequent traveler (75,000+ miles in the air per year), and I was nervous that my 15" laptop would be too big. Fortunately, it's just right. :-) 17", though, would just be insane...

(And for the record, I'm a HUGE fan of Mac OS X and Apple design. The 17" just isn't for me.)

Apple has always catered more faithfully to the digital media crowd. I'd want a 17" widescreen for the same reason I wanted the 15" widescreen:

Screen real estate is key when working with digital audio and video.

The wide aspect screen is just awesome for that kind of work. I spend a lot of time in Pro Tools and I can see more of the mix, fit more effects on the screen, and in general work more efficiently.

On my laptop, no less. I can edit video with my handy cam in a hotel with almost all the convenience of the cinema LCD I have on the G4 at work. :)

That why I might want a 17" lappy.

I can see good and bad about the larger Laptop.
BAD, is drop it 1 time, and the size alone will kill it.
How does the new Xray at the airport work with LCD screens.

Chris:
A laptop, a cam and a Hotel......LMAO...
OK, what if the girl, goat, other person says NO!...
I know, just get another one. That says OK.

I like the larger screens on laptops. As far as the x-ray machines at the airport, every airport I go through asks if I have a laptop (my carrying case is a dead giveaway). Upon answering yes I take it out of my case and place it in the plastic container. It doesn't even go through x-ray machine....neither does my camera.....Several major motion pictures have been shot with digital cameras.....they can be transferred to 18mm...digital cameras sometimes give the scene and/or movie better feel...off topic I know, but I like the larger screens.
