Well! I know what I'm buying next, if only to see how good SACD sounds... (then I'll throw it away)

OMG its a miracle!! Dude, just teasing. Both DVD Audio and Super Audio CD have been on the market for quite sometime. There are only a handful of players which support both formats. The big debate is which format sounds better. Different companies are supporting different formats. I do not know the whole story, but I do know Sony, Philips and a couple other companies support SACD while Pioneer, Toshiba? and some others support DVD-Audio.
SACD = Sony
DVD-A = Everyone else
Others:
Beta = Sony
VHS = Everyone else
Memory Stick = Sony
Compact Flash/Media = Everyone else
Even marketing:
I-Link = Sony
Firewire / 1394 = Everyone else
Now, personally, I don't think I can hear the difference between a CD and these new formats considering a) I don't have a golden ear b) I don't own a $5000 setup and c) I'm an "MP3 is good enough" kinda guy. Besides, most modern music don't have enough dynamic range or stress the high-frequency enough to really make these two formats shine.
Consider that 99% of CD music is ONLY Stereo..
These other formats can do 5.1 dolby.
Also, there are units that support BOTH formats in one unit, AND are about $250...
NOW that is...
READ the whole article....plz...Its Very cool.

Actually SACD is a standard developed by both Sony and Philips
Memory Stick is manufactured and used by many many companies (and there are 4-5 other main competing formats for memory as well, not 2)
and lastly, Sony gave the IEEE1394 name 'i.Link' because a) Apple was charging people to use the name 'Firewire', b) because everyone else renames it themselves too
silly

This is old news. The articles on the web comparing the two formats have been out for over a year now. James Kim from TechTV was just updating the general popluace because of the new players that are on the market. I saw his review of a couple of different models. The lower end Apex played both SACD and DVD-A. My favorite part of the article comes at the end when Mr. Kim says SACD was designed for niche market audiophiles who want to spend thousands on their home audio. Then he contradicts this statement with, but it can go as low as the $250 Apex. I think, it was not a very good technical review.
How about you buy another computer to work as your AC-3 (DD) decoder and your DVD-A / SACD player. Then you would just have to find some audio disks that take advantage of the 5.1 different channels. This computer could then double as your music storage facility.

5.1 Channel Built-in Decoder Output
Digital Equalizer
3D Virtual Surround Sound
Dolby Pro Logic
Dolby Digital/DTS/PCM Ready
Why use a computer......
AND the music is already out there. If you want to find it..
