Anyone have any thoughts, comments, or experiences regarding LASIK? I had my eyes checked yesterday and my contact are giving me some pretty bad irritation. The doctor said i was a prime candidate, though. This is because my eyes have not gotten worse than the 20/300 they currently are.
Cost wise, i have seen prices from $500 per eye to $2500 per eye. I would have to finance the surgery either way. What are average costs?
To all those prepared to flame me for not asking a doctor, i am doing back next thursday for a checkup.
Have you checked with a doc yet? I have really bad vision too. I mean real bad. I want to know if this is safe.
If you are going ahead, make sure you get a good doc to do the surgery because if you go to one of those "do both and get your second eye half off!" places you might completely lose your vision.
One of my teachers got LASIK done on both his eyes. He said they use a ultrafine laser and flip up part of your cornea or something and fire the laser in for about 2 minutes. So you go from bad vision to almost 20/20 in just 2 minutes. Amazing. And then they lower the flap and you just leave. Sorta like a dentists appointment.
The weird thing was he asked them to make one eye for looking at far away things and the other for reading. So when he looks at a book, one eye takes over and the other sorta just goes dead. Same with the other one.
He explained that some people get really dizzy with that configuration but his mind is different. After all he is a chemistry teacher.
