Why in the hell would Sony make something like this? Only an item like this would sell in Japan, I think Americans would laugh at such a high priced useless device.
What do you guys think?

If people over here in the US would look overseas once in a while...
The GT3/K has been in Japan for over 1 1/2 years now.
Don't get me wrong, the GT3/K is a schweet little laptop, just don't go saying that this laptop/palmtop is new.
I think this is a really cool device. Why wouldn't someone want one of these instead of the picture book?

I honestly don't know, other that if consumers think the side mounted camera and the tilt/swivel LCD panel could have problems in the future (e.g. breaking off...)
Back at the STC-SD (Sony Tech Center-San Diego), where laptops and desktops in all the US get sent for repair, we had a few C1's come in with inoperable cams. In most of the cases, it was just the CCD chip giving us and the customer fits. Being the GT3/K is .jp (and we only got 15 .jp units in during my tenure, most QR1's), I'm not sure what issues they might have with them.
All in all, it looks to be a good, solid design (sans LCD swivel), and good for the people that need a mid-range portable and a mid-range cam.
I'm still waiting however, for my PCG-U101 http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Style-a/Product/U/ to come in. How's that for a sweet portable. :)

now dang....
The trick would be that you get one of those (PCG-U101) stateside and review it... :) Then you would have a bleeding edge .jp product to tote around on slashdot or whereever.
Hell, I'd review it fo you.
You'd probably be happy then :p
