Checkout our latest review of the Maxtor 5000DV Personal Storage (http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review63.html)Maxtor’s new 5000DV external hard drive is both large and fast; perfect for those in need of a lot of storage. Add to that FireWire/USB 2.0 support, built in backup software that activates at the touch of a button and you could quite possibly have the perfect storage solution.

It seems that most of the external hard drive units lately, primarily made by hard drive manufacturers, are forgoing the power button. Maybe it's a way to save a handful of cents ;)

I have always liked LaCie products and their d2 product (primarily the FireWire 800, which is backwards compatible with standard FireWire with an included cable, and USB 2.0 model) [http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10019] looks very nice in the simplistic manner. Not to mention that they stack more elegantly and can be rackmounted or even placed into a mini-rack. The only problem is that LaCie products tend to be a bit more expensive than the Maxtor or WD products.

Nice review and the one-year warranty does stink.
