Has any one seen or played with this plasma? http://designtechnica.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=546466

I think that $5800 seems like a pretty good price for a 50" plasma.

Manufacturer's website: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/Industrial/IndustrialProductDetails/0,1444,21014,00.html

MSRP according to their website is $15K !!

Here is a reader review I found here: http://www.epinions.com/content_61093023364

Got a pretty good review here...
http://industryclick.com/magazinearticle.asp?magazinearticleid=121666&magazineid=127&mode=print

Oh, found a nice "current technologies article". Kinda topline, but still nice. http://www.projectorexpert.com/Pages/matchme.html

Don't forget you will probably have to get a card for teh inputs you want, and i think they run around $500

And don't forget that Dell sells plasmas (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productlisting.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&category_id=521) , and you can always wait for a 10-20% discount promotion, which they seem to put on every other week.

What do you mean by a card? You can't just take this thing home and plug it into your satellite?

For the sake of expandability, this model uses swapable cards with the inputs on them. It is a relatively old model, I wanna say from around mid 2001, that is still really nice, but has finally come down in price to a sane level. It has BNC inputs as standard....

If I were looking for a plasma, I would certainly pass this one up. I don't like the idea of having to swap input cards. I would like a 50-55" plasma with all the inputs in it already as well as some internal speakers. I could care less as to whether it has a tuner since I use satellite anyways.

Actually, the idea is kinda nice, you you remember to factor in the card price when you're looking. The current ones have just about every input on one card, and the picture is great. Sure, no speakers, but really, you should hook it up to a surround system....

The PDP-503CMX is an industrial version Plasma Display with exceptionally vibrant, punchy colors, but only 'good' black levels (rumered to be around 1000:1 contrast ratio -- go with a Panasonic if black levels are your thing). The Pioneer uses a video card slot for upgradeability purposes. There are many different cards available for this unit -- all depending on what you are looking to get out of it. ie: better scaling, PIP, etc. Without the cards, the unit is nothing but a dumb monitor unable to proccess anything but a signal from your PC.

Ioman, 15k for this unit is insane. Do a search on the internet for the PDP-503CMX and you will turn up many online resellers who are selling this for half of that cost (give or take a few). As a side note, always check on the reputation of any online reseller in regards to Plasma Displays. These things are fraud magnets.

Regards,
Brian

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering why this thing had swappable cards as well. I am just waiting till 55" plasmas come down in price before I buy.

BTW, nice Angel avatar!

I agree, I am waiting for a 50" plasma with a good contrast ratio, maybe integrated speakers (although not necessary) and a good price.

I forgot to mention....Welcome to the Designtechnica forums Brian!
