Dumb idea if you ask me. What happens if it stops working BEFORE the 2 day window? I also do not see video stores picking this up. They do not mention if the discs can be reset or not. Once they stop working after 2 days, are they useless for ever?

Yeah, I saw that on News.com and another news site over the weekend.

I think it's yet another thing that people will just throw away and clog up our landfills even more. Yeah, Disney could put out recycling bins to collect those, but the same has been said about plastic or pop can bins... yet you still see those thrown away in the trash or along the highway.

It's also quite lazy and it's another way for the media conglom to take more money away from rental houses.

What next, CD's that will rust after a year, forcing people to rebuy all of their music over and over again? Oh ****, better not let the labels read this... it might turn a light bulb in their dim and demented minds.

I believe reactions like this one to cause a color change can be accelerated or decelerated with changing temperature and humidity. Further, not all DVD players may cope with color changes equally well. It appears to be an "innovation" to benefit Disney and no one else.

I agree, good point about the humidity. I think this will quickly be turned away from DVD player manufacturers. There are too many elements which can affect the way this type of disc responds.

I say let em do it. If they want to go to the additional expense to make a disc that still has a 48 hour copying window, let em. No video store is ever going to carry it, though because they would have to keep purchasing them over and over again and would not be able to resell them on the used DVD/CD racks so it would not be profitable. This "technology" will eventually destroy itself, in more ways than what Disney intended.
