View Full Version : A real challenge...
Converting power from one form to another SUCKS.
So, Im looking for a Power supply that runs OFF a car battery, for installation in Vehicles. A power converter is a waste. Computers run on 5 and 12 volts. converting 12 volt battery to 120 and back to 12 is a waste.
Anyone know where I can find them... there has to be someone making them...

Did you think of using a power supply that has a rechargeable batter that you can juice up using your car when it starts to get low?
Now I just have to find something as I described. What are you planning on powering?
Does anyone know how those new cars, such as the Pontiac Vibe, with the standard outlet plugs in the car generate the right amount of Voltage? I would assume that it is a built in converter.
How about some links showing us what you don't want?
Standard MBs need + 12V, +5V, +3.3V, -5V and -12V. Good luck finding a DC-DC converter that can provide all those different voltages.
Another option is to use a laptop PS. After all, those things have to run off of batteries.
Just hope whatever you use, you have great filtering caps for your PS. Car electrical supplies aren't the cleanest in the world.
ruri...
This I understand...
But if you wanted to set up a comp in a motor home, and have it secure from thieft, this would be a decent idea.
DC-DC converters for all the voltages, with a conditioner inline. If they take the comp, it WONT work.
you loose a good amount of power converting from 12volt, to 120volt, just to go back to 12 volt..
Having a backup battery in a vehicle, charged by the Alternator, and used only by the computer, would be neet. Use it anytime any place.
Vin: just for fun, how many things in your house run off 120...Do you know...
