My HDD100 died after 1 day. harddrive won't boot past Phillips logo. can't access files with usb cable (says its not connected) I've emailed Phillips twice about warranty but I get computer generated replies saying they'll get back to me in 2 business days and they don't. Has anyone had any luck dealing with Phillips? Advice?
aNYWAY TO CHECK THE CABLE???

No way to check it. I don't know anyone with the same jukebox and none of my other usb cables are the same configuration. I'm getting the worse of the two exclamation point warnings on the screen. The one that the manual says to take it to a service center. There are no service centers. The link on the Phillips web page goes nowhere. The cable worked fine for a day.
Then dont EMAIL phillips, CALL them..
Did you buy it NEW??

factory sealed box, BUYER BEWARE of Phillips is more like it. If you call the 800 number they suggest, the recording says to get out your credit card and prepare to pay $15 to talk to a tech. Phillips puts out an crap product and then wants to charge you to hear about it. How many people bought the hdd100 with its lousy firmware and and lousier software and weren't savy enough to come here and find out how to make them work?
But this is the coment I have for ALL current Hardware.. PERIOD..
Its coming out as BETAWARE.
alphaware is 1st test of the machine.
Betaware is software developement, and tweaking.
Public release/Final release is the finished product, and generally needs FEW adjustments.
There has been some many releases, that (IMHO) should NEVER have come out for AT LEAST another year. Its getting stupid.
They release a product Early, to get ppl to purchase it, and garner money. Its a NEW product so they ADD about 2x the price, and those that want the NEWEST/prettiest/coolest products PAY for it.
I WONT touch ANY new software/hardware for 1 year AFTER introduction. Let them FIX all the bugs, and THEn I pay about 1/3-1/2 as MUCH.
I also can Get better evaluations of the product, as I can see all the comments from others....REAL evaluations.....
How long sence you Bought it the product...
WAS the seller a PERSON or a company?
I thought there was a Warrenty with it..

I got it a little over a week ago. The seller had a lot of positive feedback on Ebay. Person or company? depends on your definition. There was a warranty and I sent in the warranty card. The problem is with contacting Phillips about honoring the warranty. You can't get though. Folks reading this...If you're buying an hdd100 new with warranty, don't expect Phillips to honor the warranty. Good luck getting them to even respond to an email inquiry.
ECA, I agree with your comment for all current hardware.

no response from email addresses on that link. I did call 888phillips again and this time chose "all other inquiries" and I was connected to an assistant in Manilla, put on hold and forced to listen to awful musak and apologies for my wait, then givin a number to call. That number had a message that they're in a business meeting until 3:30. At 6:30 I give up and called the first number again, put on hold again and then the call was dropped. Third time I got a rep who took my info, puts me on hold, came back on and at my request ( after 26 min) puts on her supervisor who explains that Phillips doesn't honor the 90 day exchange program (your store has to do that). I got a ference number and an address to which I'm to send the non-functioning hdd100.
I might get it back in 3 weeks. I think I'd rather have a root canal than deal with Phillps' customer care again. Thanks for encouraging me ECA
Philips isnt a US company anymore...There in Europe..
REALLY want to see something FUNNy...
check US prices and UK prices... $40 US, and SAME product is 40BP in Britain...
40BP is about $60 US...THEN ADD TAX, about 20%.

Do you know of anyone working on hacking the Toshiba MEG50AS?
If you could write something that gets around the DRM in the Toshiba, I'd worship you forever. The filesizes that are created by the Toshiba DRM software are consistently 2 KB or so bigger than the original MP3, so I think there isn't much going on there. The problem would be getting the firmware code to find out how easy it would be to modify that to play plain mp3's.
I also have a MEG50AS, and was wondering the same thing. It's been a great little player, but I was hoping someone got around the DRM on it, maybe with hacked firmware.
