Publisher Acclaim is set to cease development for Nintendo's GameCube once its current projects are finished, with stating that the platform does not supply "appropriate yields".

"Why are we to develop games for platforms that do not supply appropriate yields?" questioned Cousens in comments made to MCV Germany this week. "We still support PS2 and Xbox, but Nintendo? No, not in the foreseeable future."

Games which are currently in development for the GameCube will be completed and released, however, no further projects on the console are being planned.

Acclaim's GameCube release schedule at the moment features Legends of Wrestling III, Urban Freestyle Soccer and, probably most interestingly, the next title in the Extreme-G series, XGRA - all of which are expected to appear on the Cube as planned.

It might help if Acclaim made some good games...

It's been a while since I've actually played an Acclaim game that I liked. A lot of their stuff on the console isn't very great compared to what EA, Square and other game houses have published (okay, EA biffed up with the XBox, GC and PC version of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2). Burnout just wasn't that great... sure, it was fun to start off with, but it got so damned tiring very quickly.

Anyway, it looks like they have taken back a little of what they have said and they will look at releasing games to the GC on a case by case basis:

So what if Acclaim doesn't release another GC game... there is always Square ;)

Exactly what I was thinking while reading the blurb--they just want some attention, imo.

Agreed, their games are too arcade generic. There is nothing special about them in my opinion.

I am excited to play Squares Final Fantasy wannabe on Gamecube though.

There are plenty of other manufacturers that will release games for the GC. Sounds like a bad business decision on Acclaims part.

I'm curious to see if it will have similiar style or some new crazy fandango style. The new ps2 released in japan looks pretty cool.

Nintendo GC is a dinosaur compared to the XBox and PS2...nintendo should just focus on the games themselves. There's nothing sexy bout their machines, just look at that new PS sysytem that was posted a while back. Now that's Designtechnica worthy...lol! you guys are right about Acclaim games being lame compared to EA and Square.

Although the GC is nowhere near the specs of the PS2 and the Xbox, but I do think (and agree) that Nintendo's biggest strengths are their games (Metroid, Zelda, earlier Mario, F-Zero, etc.) and the Game Boy line (okay, with the exception of the original GBA w/o the lighting). Also, the Wavebird is awesome... so far, the closest thing out there are the Logitech wireless ones that cost more than a stinking game!

Although I own the GC and the PS2 (along with the N64, PSX, Super NES, NES and DC), I end up playing on my PS2 and my SNES more. I haven't touched the N64 for months and I've only played Metroid Prime and Zelda lately on the GC. That may change though with the new Final Fantasy games from Square [Enix], and possibly Soul Caliber 2 :D

Also consider that the GC costs less than the PS2 and the Xbox... for some, the value of the GC is greater... but not everyone... unfortunately.
