Its a new game. What pissed me off is that every magazine pumped this game up in their previews and extra coverage. Then when the game is actually released, they all give it bad ratings...totally missleading if you ask me.
Ya, dont ya love it.
Same for MOO3. Supposed to be freat from Every company that eveluated it. As soon as it hit the market, went from 9 to a 4. and STILL no patch for it after 4 months.
Every one that bought a copy is NOW a beta tester(maybe alpha).
Im really tired of all the games recently, that are MORE beta then anything. Even after 3 years of making the game, all you get is another MYST. Very pretty, and no real game. They spend more on the graphics then game play.
Also, they dont learn from whats Already been released. They TRY to make there own interfaces, graphics, MP, and all the rest, and there was Better already out there.
BF 1942 is so ram hungry, it lags itself to death, it has problems with releaseing ram on the video card, and cacheing. If you aint got 512meg + on your machine, you will lag. If you aint got a 64meg+ video you will LAG, and the interface(for joining mp) lags the game as it dont close out.
I will say, take your pick of ANY current game. It will (99% chance) be beta on the shelf.

Next time I wait for an official review, I am not falling for the hype again.
I recently did it for MOO3. I generally wiat 1 year from release to see how a game does. 2 weeks after the relase, if you could find it, MOO3 dropped to half price. It was that bad. Alot of the players have been Modding it, and telling others to quit complaining. But I consider that a game must be playable when released. Modding takes a Playable game to a good game, and a good game to a great game.
I played Interstate 82 for 5 years, Loved it. Everyone was making maps for it also. Played Moo2 off and on for 3 years. Played ELITE 2(Frontier Elite) for ALONG time. Even with a few bugs these games were great.
CURRENt games keep trying to make things look REAL. I DONT CARE, as long as (almost) any computer can play it and it WORKS. I hate adding 16 patches(if ya aint got the net, you wont get any) to a game that should WORK.
Along time ago, in a land far away, when a game was made all the other game makers Looked at what had been done, and then tried to IMPROVE on what was out there. Making better and better games. WHAT happened. Now days they keep RELEARNING what others already know. Battle field 1942, and RTCW, are this way. The engine they are using is SO hoggish, you better have ALOT of system to run them.
In the OLD days, the FAT in a program was CUT, to nothing, as it needed to fit on a floppy disk. Elite 2, had a 3D moveable rendering of the WHOLE milkyway, rendered every solar system in 3D when you entered it, had moving planets, gravity wells, AROUND the planets, 3D space ships, Everything. And fit on a floppy disk. It was 16 colors on the PC version, 1024 colors on the amiga version, and even higher colors on 1 other machine(Acorn?). WHY cant they do this good NOW.

hey, Myst is an awesome game.
Brute Force does suck, I played it at my friend's house.
odd, all the previews I read, said MOO3 sucked, maybe you just have bad sources.
and BF1942 seems popular enough, I guess the problems arent too major.

How about a game that could take you to a Planetary system with 8 sun, 27 planets, all in there own places and Moving.
And this is only 1 system. Add 200 more to it. Make this game in 1985-1990.
NOW fit it on 1-2 floppy disks. The graphics are ray traced and Vector graphics, but.
BUT= you can do anything you want, it is NOT a path you have to follow, or a maze. you can be a trader, stock market analyst, pirate, belong to 1 of 3 confederations, run illegals, bus paeple around, do assasinations, spy, lots of different things.
NOW, show me a improvement on this.

And they all move, there are 7 planets here. With gravity.
