problems with my usb modem

Hello,

I just bought a brand new Zoom/Modem V.92 USB Mini (Zoom 3090A V.92 USB
Data / Fax / Voice Modem) because I can't
get my other modem to work (AMR PC Tel 56K modem).

I installed the cd that came with it then i plugged in the
usb modem to the usb port.
When I turn on my pc it did not automatically detect the modem
my pc could not find any drivers for it.
So I went onto the company's website and downloaded the latest driver.
I found out i have a Model 3090A not a Model 3090...the cd that came
with the modem was not for model 3090A. So I download the Model 3090A
driver and installed it. It detected the moded and installed the
drivers automatically. But It still does not work. When I use aol
aol does not detect the modem. Also when i use netzero,
bluelight, or juno it does not work. It says connection error 630
that the port was disconnected due to hardware failure. When I
go to control panel--->modem---> then click on my
modem (Zoom V92 USB Faxmodem) then go to com 3 then
diagnostics then more info it says could'nt open port.

When I go to system then device manager then double click on my modem
it says device working properly...?

Is my modem not turned on?..Does it turn on automatically...I can't
find an on/off switch on modem.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Im not up on USB modems, but would consider that it shouldnt be on the COM port. Com ports generally are those serial ports we no longer use, and for internal modems. Think it should be under USB devices.
Did you kill all the other drivers for the other modem?
Another think: Do you have a network card on/in your machine. Or maybe one Listed in the BIOS, windows REALLY dont like using modems when there is a net card involved. It thinks it can go faster using the net card.

It detects it as a usb modem and a regular modem as com3. I removed all other modems. No i do not have any network cards in my machine.
Maybe I should take it back for another one? Maybe I might get a 3090 and not a 3090a?
