Howdy,
I'm looking to replace a TI 4200 I gave to my dad with a
9500 to mod to 9700, but I understand I need the classic
"L" shaped memory PCB for this to be successfull.
I'd really like to find a Black PCB like the Sapphire, but I can
only find the New PCB style with the straight memory
configuration.
Doesn anyone have, or have a link to a a 9500 black PCB,
"L" shaped memory config? I have cash/pay pal on hand
and I'm looking to purchase NOW! LOL
Any and all help is greatly apprecaited.

The black Sapphire 9500s use a new PCB design. I have not heard that they will accept the mod. Sorry, you are going to have to clash colors and go with the red PCB 128MB version. (Even then, your chances are only 50-50 that the mod will work without checkerboarding.)
Sence the posting of all the Upgrade info on this site, they have changed to format. That format is NOT compatible, until someone makes a hack, IF they can.
Odds are 50/1 you find one that can be hacked at this point.
Suggestion:
FIND a rural computer shop that has one in stock. That may be your only chance. By the time you spand $100 on phone calls to find one, why not just get the 9700 pro or even one of the NEW 256meg cards.

Actually, I have seen potentially moddable cards at newegg within the last few days. They stock several variants of the 9500 non-Pro, so you need to look at the product descriptions and pictures carefully to make the best choice.

I just bought a VERY moddable card on ebay in the last few days. Here is a list of the items currently being sold by the person I bought it from. He ships very quickly and packages everything up nice and secure so you'll have no worries there. The one I bought was a new pull from a Dell system (so he said) but he may have other sources for them as well. He has sold many cards like this, but not all of them have been moddable. Mine didn't mod right the first time I tried it using Riva Tuner, but after I got rid of that and tried using the Omega drivers ( www.omegacorner.com ) and overclocking it a bit, it runs like a 9700 Pro.

Hmmm....after reading the description again I noticed some fine print in the ad I don't remember seeing before. These are Sapphire OEM type cards. Sapphires are the best because the clocks aren't locked out like on the ATI produced boards so flashing is not required to unlock the clocks and a utility like Power Strip will be sufficient for your overclocking needs. I got mine up to 340 core/300 memory before it started going glitchy on me. It's stable now after running for 3 days straight, but it might be able to go even higher with better cooling.

Hi guys.
I have the Sapphire Atlantis 128Mb Radeon 9500 with the I shaped memory banks and was able to soft mod it to a 9500PRO.
See my post in the other thread titled "Did the 9500 to 9700 mod work?".
Regards.
