iv recently put alot of money into my pc and my 3dmark03 score is very low when compared to other systems in my range and i have no idea why.. here is my system specs...
p4 2.4ghz 800mhz sb, 865PE chipset, 1 gig pc2700 ddr dual channel, radeon 9700 pro, audigy sound, win xp..
and my 3dmark03 score is a depressingly low 2020.. most games look and play great although i still do get some slowdown in ut2003 with everything on at 800*600 res which i dont think i should... if somebody could explain why im
getting such low scores or help out in the matter it would be much appreciated..
???

I think we had another person with the same problem. Turned out his video card was not running at 8X AGP speeds or something to that affect. Check your AGP drivers and the AGP settings in bios.
True,
as my mobo is a 1x 2x, and my card is an 2x,4x,8x.
KNOW what its really set at.
But even with that, could be some Bios error not ID'ing the cards right, or even windows, confusing on the PNP startup.
AND if your Cache is set wrong or hasnt enough room, it REALLY slows the system.
Current windows Loads everything and then sets it up. So at startup you have ALOT running. Check to see if you can kill some drivers, that are not needed ALL the time. Scanner drivers are useless until you use the scanner. Progs like ICQ, YAHOO, MSN, set them to NOT start at windows load up. Its a waste of processor time, and FASTER after windows is loaded.
you know about CTRL,ALT, DEL? go to task manager, and then to processes. I like that list to be ONLY 1 page long. If you have to slide down the list, you may have things you dont need to load at startup.

according to smartgart i am running at 8x agp thats one of the reasons why i went out and bought a new board was so that i could run at 8x... as far as setting your cache im not sure about that one.. my startup list is small only 4 programs none of them real resource hogs and my processes list is a little over a page but according to task manager i still have around 850 megs free which doesnt seem to bad... i will go through my processes list again though and disable some more thank for the suggestions..

Check your drivers, maybe you have an old AGP driver for the mobo.

I had this same problem but uninstalling the old vid drivers and reinstalling the new ones rid me of it. Also I used the 3.5 catylst drivers in stead of the others available.
SYS
ASUS A7N8X deluxe ver 2.0
1 gig corsair xms 3200 set to SPD timing
Radeon 9800 AIW
AMD 3000+ @ 2.2 Ghz
good luck!

The 850 megs is what you have for cache on your system.
You need MORE. At least 1 gig.

Hello there! Its pretty obvious that you're running with Vsync on! Never benchmark with Vsync because Vsync limits your framerate to that of your monitor Refresh rate!! In the driver settings, turn off Vsync for both Opengl and Directx. I prefer them on but many do not care to have it off. I like it on because I do in fact see some tearing. Again, disable Vsync when benchmarking.

I'm new to the forums, and was reading this thread through... I knew right from the start that vertical sync was on, I'm glad that mr.unreg picked up on that

I also am experiencing frustration with my P4-2400. Mine has the 533 mhz FSB though. Comparing my 3dmark scores with others who are using the 2.4 gig P4, my CPU scores are really bad. I am guessing that maybe these people must be overclocking their CPUs in some way and mine is turning in normal results for a normally clocked chip.

You may also want to check what 3DMark your running, and the card your running with.
3Dmark 2001 will reach a score over 10,000 with a GeForce 4 Ti / Radeon 9X00
3DMark 2003 will reach in the under 10k range
with both cards

There are things to consider with CPU speed.
MOST major makers, dell, HP, compac, do NOT use the fastest boards. And buying your OWN Mobo, there are generally 2-3 in each group that give different abilities. 1, is economy NOT speed, the other is SPEED and higher Price. Cost more but you get more speed from the Mobo. There can be around 10-20% difference between boards. Any more then that and you may have optimization problems, not cleaning up the running progs that DONT need to be running. Other then that, I wont go into Virus, trojans, or Hardware optimization.
