Checkout our latest review of the Shure E2C Canal Phones (http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review309.html)The Shure E2C is a mid-priced canalphone with exceptional sound, that can be easily driven by most portable audio players.

I am not sure I like the idea of canal phones. I wonder if they are prone to damage your ears more than regular headphones.

I have to wonder this too. But, since the sound isn't any louder, I would think things would be okay.

Still, I remember my mom telling me something as a kid. What was it? Hmmmm... Something about sticking things in my ears... *shrug*

lol.

Good review...although I'm not much of a fan of these type of headphones or any earbuds for that matter..

I just have sensitive ears and don't like sticking things in my ears :P

Have you considered reviewing the Etymotic ER-6? It's a very similar design and price point.

Not that I know of.

Yes, I have. I was torn between the Etys and the Shure, and in the end decided to go with the newcomer. Also, the Shure had more recent media coverage at one of those big electronics conventions (was it E3?).

There are MANY comparable headphones out there in each category, but unfortunately, limited time/money. I think it is more important for people to enjoy a single product, and know what to expect from that product than to necessarily do an "everything in the class" shootout. Sure it's nice for people that HAVE to have the absolute top of the line for this specific application, but in the end, most ppl read reviews before they buy to know if they will like it.

That said, I'm sure there will be an Ety review sometime in the future. Hell, maybe we'll put them head-to-head. But ya gotta give us a little time. We can't be teh leading tech website and have nothing but headphones as our featured reviews! (hehe)

My $.02

So now that you have used these a while, do you still like them and do they hurt your ears after a while?

Still like em. I find they are a LITTLE harder to drive than I thought, but not too bad. No ear pain unless I fall asleep with them in, and even then it goes away in less than a day.

I would still give them the same rating.

Actually now I'm jealous. I've come to realize as of recently many portable audio owners, esp. with iPods, like the Shure E2s. I'd like to get a set eventually. What's cool with the higher end models is that you can get ear mold fits as well.

REally want to buy these, but main use is when jogging. Anyone use them frequently while jogging? Also have v.cheap MP3 player and worried it wont drive them?

Someone please give me some advice

Hi IronSerif

Is this what you want? :) Anyway, with the extra attenuator, which is on Amazon.com, this this works well with Ipod. With the earphone, you never have to turn the volume too loud to hear clearly, since it magnifies the sound so well, so that saves battery life for the Ipod too.

Gladman,

Be aware that some ear bugs like these actually block out outside noise. It could pose a risk while jogging outside since you can't hear whats going on in your environment (car's honking, etc)

dang,

Thanks for that. I do most of my jogging in a gym so blocking outside noise is a good thing.

I'm just worried I'm going to pick up a thudding or scratching noise.

Also concerned that my MP3 player wont drive them

i dont think you'd pick up any thudding or scratching noise, and if your mp3 player can drive normal ear buds, then these should sound excellent.

Actually, the thudding will be annoying for jogging. Also, I really don't recommend these if you will be jogging where there might be traffic. They block out something like 95% of the sound around you.

Go for some decent ear buds, ear clips, or around the neck headphones. I've heard good things about the Koss KSC-55s, and they're cheap, so you won't feel bad when you forget to check the weather and get stuck in the rain :)

Oh, and your mp3 player will drive them fine.
