It shouldn't. What is the pixel refresh rate? I would go for a 21" LCD for gaming just to be safe. That way you get the higher pixel refresh rate and a higher resolution. I heard the Samsung LCD monitor are good for gaming.

Thats a tough question. From my personal experience I have seen LCD's with identical specs show a completely different pictures. My suggestion would be to go to Best Buy or any other computer store and test them out first hand if you can. I have heard that Samsung's higher end models are good for gaming.

I agree with IOMan. Also watch the contrast ratio. The bigger teh screen, the worse the CR gets in general. When you go to check them out, fiddle with the controls and make sure you can get it to be as bright as you want it to be.

Yea Samsung has by far the best LCDs' for games!!!
They are better in low light. NO direct sun light. Refresh can be slow. If you are into High graphic gaming, go for lower res, and higher refresh.
It would be nice to give us the model number, aod/or a link to the one you are getting.

I don't know much about LCD monitors but this one recently caught my eye.

I might get one to free up some desk space but I'm not quite sure yet.

But the info is incomplete. Whats the refresh rate?
What tech are they using.
Whats the inputs on the LCD.
Thanks for the link Chuck, but go to the manufactour web site. Get your info there. Forget what ZDNET says. forget what everyone else says, if the manufactour dont give you ALL the info, then dont buy it.

This is the one I recently purchased,
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcd_vp171b.htm
17in LCD, 16ms response time, 500:1 contrast ratio, dvi & vga inputs.
Due to its very fast pixel response time it is great for gaming, the best LCD you can get. I really don't see any ghosting at all.
It's a tough call when it comes to LCD's right now. I wanted a 19" at least, but the fastest 19" lcds on the market are only 25ms. I ended up settling for a 17" because the resolution was the same as the 19" (1280x1024) and it was 2 bills cheaper.
I like the these Viewsonic pro series monitors much better than the samsungs. The LCD image quality is about equal but I prefer the Viewsonics housing (case? whatever). The viewsonics elevate, swivel, tilt, and rotate. The build quality seems better as well (thicker plastic. heh heh).
Be wary the comparing LCD specs, some sites will only give the pixel response time rise of 20ms, and leave out the Fall response time. (Response time = Rise and Fall of the pixel. For a 16ms screen it is 12ms rise and 4ms fall)
Resolutions Supported:
720 x 400* @ 70 Hz
640 x 480 @ 60 Hz to 75 Hz
800 x 600* @ 56 Hz to 75 Hz
832 x 624* @ 75 Hz
1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz to 75 Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz to 75 Hz
** not to bad really. Looking at the spec, 1280 is the recommended setting. And 70-75 is a good hz
Operating Humidity Range:
30% to 80%
** BE AWARE.. In a moist area, you may have to shut down, and also in VERY dry areas. Control your environment alittle.
Operating Temperature:
+41° F to +95° F / +5° C to +35° C
** Good temp range, dont let it get to cold, or hot. As above control environment alittle.
16ms response time - typical
Fair.. Should work.
One thing to check, is the main companies makeing LCD's. Read there current news and updates, they may be dumping some monitors and coming out with a new line.
View sonic......
** better range, higher also.
Fh: 30~82kHz, fv: 50~85Hz
**Better temp range
32–104°F (0–40°C)
**Humidity
10–90% (non-condensing)
AND the contrast goes to 500/1 compared to 400/1..
Much brighter.
I would prefer any color besides black or green, on an LCD. These absorb heat, ALOT.

We saw some Planar LCD's at Comdex or CES and they looked amazing. They are based here in Oregon I believe too. Unfortunately they have more of a business oriented brand than targeting general consumers, but hopefully that will change. Tell us what you think of it.

To keep things civil, even if you are a weirdo ECA, I got your back!
I think it could have been Sonyman who left the forums in a huff after Agrymod kept deleting his posts which contained swear words, and durogatory remarks towards others (they were pretty bad too).

hmm I would recommend the Samsung 191T 19" LCD monitor then. Another thing I wopuld do is go to Alienware and VoodooPC website and find out which LCD monitors they sell since they make gaming only rigs.
