I've been look at these 3:

Apple Ipod
iRiver iHP-100
Philips HDD100
Rio Karma

Any suggestions which one is better?

Based on what I have seen in here, I think the majority would say Apple iPod. Please register so we can chat some more.

I'm having the same problem. Though, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that, when disregarding price, ipod is the way to go.

size / maturity / usability / accessories.. all these things seem to point to ipod (from my opinion).

Capacity:
Karma wins (20GB for 15GB iPod price, 40GB for 30GB price)

Size:
Karma 20 slightly smaller volume than 10/15GB iPod, Karma 40 slightly larger volume than iPod 30GB. Dead heat.

Maturity:
iPod on 3rd generation, Rio making players 5+ years -- a tie?

Usability:
iPod for eas-of-use, Karma for power/flexibility.

Accessories:
iPod has 3rd-party stuff and more coming, Karma is new.

So either choice is a good one right now. If you need something multi-codec and multi-platform, go Rio. Otherwise, Apple.

tie? I dunno. All I ever hear is that everyone that has owned a Rio mp3 player has hated it. Personally, I own a rio s35s, and have never had one problem with it.. The thing's great. But, I haven't had any experience with other rio players.

I guess this rio karma is definitely one to consider.. I just wish it was out now rather then coming out sometime in September (I think that's what I read anyway).

Agreed. I hear the software for the RIO players is awful, plus there is no telling how long RIO will be around. Sonicblue sold the RIO line and the new company is doing little to market it.

thanks for the replies...i've decided to get the iriver...i know it its a bit expensive..the cheapest i found was 350...but it comes with many features that i like..such as the fm radio and optical line in recording, etc....also..iriver is working to implement ogg support so hopefully that'll be another feature set soon..

u guys should check out the previews/reviews that are out for the iriver....everyone loves it and i personally like how the LCD is, even more than the ipod...

the ipod had too little features in my opinion and it was very PC friendly out of the box...

well...the ihp-100 should be here tomorrow..if anyone has questions about it...post replies here...

I'm pretty much considering the same list that you are (minus the iRiver iHP-100). I guess I seem to be leaning more towards the ipod right now.

The karma looks awesome, because of its size and the ethernet port, but from what i hear, its not a good buy because of the company.

And, the hdd100 looks awesome, except for the lockups and the crappy software.

So, that is why , in a nutshell, i'm leaning towards the ipod. I'm not really looking at the zen nx anymore, simply due to its size. I need a very small player.

A friend of mine has developed a very well thought out and
constructed MP3 player suitable for in car mounting or simply for use in your
home. The unit makes use of a PALM for the user interface and is available in capacities
ranging from 20 gigabytes up to the current 2.5-inch drive high capacity of 80
gigabytes. The output is accomplished via optical, RCA or FM low power
transmitter that is continuously tunable from 87.5 to 108.0. The RCA can be
hooked inline between another source and will switch to the MusicVault when it
is in operation. The user has the ability to create multiple song lists, choose
random and repeat modes, I could go on or just give you the URL. http://mptronix.com I have been using this device since
development started and find it easier and more intuitive to use than any other
player I have owned or used.

It looks like a good idea, but since you have to have a car to use it, I would not call it truely portable. All the other players listed can be carried in a pocket.

I own a iHP-100 (IRiver) and I'm very pleased with it. Nice design, fantastic features and perfect sound!

From APPLE.COM

New 20GB and 40GB models
Smaller than ever (just 0.62 inches thick), the iPod fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and slips easily into your pocket — and your life. At 5.6 ounces, it weighs less than 2 compact discs, and even many cell phones. And yet the iPod gives you a huge 10GB, 20GB or 40GB hard drive — that’s 10,000 songs. Do the math: that’s space enough to store four weeks of music — played continuously, 24/7 — or one new song a day for the next 27 years

Same pricepoint as the old 15 and 30 3G models
