I just got in the market to buy a new laptop and fell in love with the compaq x1000. But looking up info on it, I realized there was a 10% coupon on it two weeks ago that would've saved me a $150 :(
I still want to get the new Compaq x1000 but the only way I can justify the purchase is if there have been worthwhile changes made to the laptop and it's price structure over the past two weeks.
I noticed (based on the posts on the x1000 thread - i wish i saw this forum or deal back then :( ) they now offer a dvd burner for $200 more and no longer offer the 128 mb ram setting as the base setting so obviously there has been some changes in the pricing/customization. The starting price is still $1300 after the $100 rebate but I suspect/hope that many of the upgrades now already added on at this starting price such as the 64 mb video card, 256 ram, wireless lan simply weren't already added on to the price two weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone who bought the compaq x1000 laptop back during the 10% off deal can confirm that the pricing structure is different and if so, what the differences were.
Please just take a second or so to go here and see if there are any changes between what was offered two weeks ago during the 10% off deal and what's currently offered now that might have made the wait worth it. (Did the price lower at all and just isn't apparent to me because now they give the 64 mb card and wireless lan as standards as opposed to giving the 32 mb and Lan as standard, did the cost of any of the upgrades fall? etc.)

If it helps, I'm planning to custimize the laptop with the lowest available options for each category but get the dvdrw upgrade ($200) , sxga upgrade ($50), and 64 mb graphics card ($75) bringing my total to $1500 after the $100 mail in rebate.
So what I'm wondering is, would a similarly equipped laptop have cost me around the same two weeks ago even after the 10% off coupon? Was the dvd burner option even available?
I'm also wondering if you think it's worth while to spend $50 more to upgrade from the 1.3 M to the 1.4 M processor and if i'm right in thinking that I can just get the 1dimm 256 mb ram chip for now and then add in a 512 mb ram chip later on into the second slot (the thread on this laptop says that people were having trobule finding the second slot even).
Your help is very much appreciated, thanks so much. This is just a big purchase that I can barely afford and that's why I'm so nervous about getting the best possible deal.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read all this and respond.
I would also be greatful if you let me know as to know comparably priced, comparably equipped laptops, thanks. I already saw the dell 8500 and wasn't pleased with it.
