just got broadband installed a week ago and I now have cable modem (we just moved to a new house, I had DSL before the move). For some reason, I cannot stream internet music with Winamp.
I was able to do this with DSL before. My cable modem is plugged in through a router (same configuration as before) and assigns a dynamic IP address, not static.
Any idea why I cannot stream internet music? I miss Digitally Imported!:(
Is your cable provider blocking ports? DSL ISPs are generally more lenient with their TOS. I know Adelphia used to (maybe still does) block port 21, which of course kills your FTP and port 1214 (Morpheus). For awhile there during the Code Red / Nimda incident, most ISP also blocked outbound port 80.
Go to DI and see if you can listen to streams over port 80. If you can, then chances are, your provider is blocking ports.
Also, figure out which port the stream is coming in from (typically 8xxx). Setup an FTP box using that port and see if you can FTP into it. If you can't, then the port is blocked.
Good luck.

Get this. I called ATT to ask them what was going on. They laughed and said it was not on their end and I should check my router. So I hung up and went downstairs for lunch. When I came back up, it was now working.
This is just plain weird if you ask me. Who knows what happened?? :brick

I have always had good luck with listening to streaming shoutcast stuff using cable. I have used both Adelphia and RoadRunner. I still like cable much more than DSL. Ameritech really pissed me off !! I don't like those filters you have to put on all your phones either !!
It prolly depends alot on the network infrastructure in your area tho.
I thought you were trying to setup a shoucast server. That is much more complicated.

Just a follow up, it turned out the problem was Winamp 3 for some reason. As soon as I switched to Winamp 2.8 everything worked fine. I wonder what caused 3 to have problems?
