I saw the sony tr1a on display in taiwan and I was immediately struck by the glossy black screen. The xbrite screen is an interesting design and it has such a bright screen!

I wondered if other manufacturors also have comparable screens and have been doing some research online and found out Sharp, a leader in flatscreens has the RD20 and Fujitsu N series have their versions of bright screen laptops. But are these screens the same? These manus including Sony don't list the NITs value (standard measurement of luminence) in the laptop specifications which makes for harder comparison.

To me, screens are the major consideration in laptops and I would appreciate it pple here on designtechnica could give me more insight into the laptop screens like how they're made and who (which OEM?) makes them and things to look out for in a good screen.

thanks!
