You probably have noticed a new ad type where it fills the screen completely and runs like a commercial (with a skip link in the upper right hand corner). Please let us know if you have any problems with this ad and your web browser.
Thanks.
ONLY 1.
I HATE IT.
Please push a button to continue to the page you wanted.
I wanted the page, not the Ad.
I know ya need the money to make this site pay for itself, but GOD I loved the OLD net.

I hear ya. There is a cookie that makes sure yo only see the ad once per 24 hours, so its not THAT bad. I still like it better than pop-unders though.
Our site is growing and this helps us to pay the bills. Designtechnica started out as a hobby and is just getting too large!

when i first saw it..i was thinking "did i enter the right website?" it was just weird at first
Weird, not quite.
Different, yes.
At least here, the truth can be told. And no one is getting paid for it.
Yup. and we try to let people keep an open forum about things.
I too thing its better then pop-unders. and it's better then some of the other full screen ads where you can't skip but must wait (like at gamespot)
YES,
the game sites are getting REAL bad, about adverts.
Even tocows.

Stan: O Great Wizard of Gregendath. What quest do you ask of this Ranger and Paladin?
Cartman: Only one thing can save our kingdom. You must bring me: a piece of pecan pie with toffee ice cream and magic shell. Hurry now!
Kyle: That quest sucks, Cartman! Think of another one!
haha
Backdoor sluts 9!! Oh my god!

I have seen it twice today.
Dear DT,
You understand that most of us have been on the net along time. And alot of us are NOT technicaly challenged. We select what we buy and what tech is needed with Long and contemplative thought.
Adverts, that you carry and those that anyone else may carry, really dont empress us much. Some times its like a bum that sticks his face in yours asking for a buck for a coffee.
But, we know that it takes money to run a web site. And we cant condemn you for trying to make this a good site with all the time you spend here. So do as you need to keep this site, keep it upto date, and to pay for it.
Just one thought. Try not to make them to obtrusive, 16 popups just to get to a page.
Thanks.
NOW a thought. How about 4 pop ups when we first come to your site and kill the rest.
if you get any pop-ups, then let me know right away. right now we are doing some stream ads, which load before showing the page. you can click on the link in the upper right hand to close the ad and move on to the next page, or wait 5 seconds for it to dismiss on its own.
If you are getting ANY pop-ups, send me an email at dangaul at designtechnica . com. What this means is most likely some adverts are pushing pop-ups in their code for the banners, which we do not allow. if you see a pop up take not of what banners are on the page and let me know.
we took pop-ups off and put up the stream ad because we thought it was a better use experience. let us know if you agree.
That new PAGE popup, I swear TRIES to popup more then 1 time. It flashes on between pages.
If you want to know, in the TV world it is illegal to have Flash commercials. ya we still see a few.

It's worth noting that if you use Zone Alarm, and have the Privacy setting set to block 3rd party cookies, you get that f$%^&ing ad every single time you click a link.
Man, that was pissing me off. I could even search for this thread. I hit "Search", start to type, the pop up appears, click skip, return to page, pop up appears, click skip,....
Grrrrrr.... I prefer pop ups. Everyone should have a blocker by now, and at least there are good programs for ignoring them. This makes me want to uninstall Flash.

Upper right hand corner is where the skip ad link is.
Sorry, I know you guys hate it. We are just trying to stay afloat here.
FLOAT, start swimming.
I dont care if you have to put up adult links for the money.
I would still NOT mind if you had 4 popups when I first come to the site, as long as I can click them OFF and continue without ANYmore.

now, I do find them annoying... but that Skip link is pretty easy to find, ECA.
I suppose I can live with it once a day.. just dont want it coming up more often than that.
I know you hate me :) I never click on any ads. Although, I have been to that cell phone site that is recently advertised here... too damn expensive tho.
WHY not find the companies you wish to support, and use there affiliate progs, as well as there popup's.
for more money get into those advert companies that change all the time, but I would wish they DONT have those BOTS in them, you still have 1 that wants to put "avenue A" bot on my machine(Vonage?).
Splatter them on the Right side of the forums, theres room(most times).

Its not that simple. 90% of our ads come in through an advertising agency, we do not sell our space ourselves.
1 Q:
Do we have to tag them for you to get money?
And why not go to MORE companies, make them bid for your site if they want you to THEMSELVES.
Ioman

No, you don't have to click on all of them to make money. Some advertisers pay for how many times their ad shows up, not how many times someone clicks on it.
We do go to a lot of companies and make them bid on our site. The winning companies are the ones up there. :)
