I'm looking at buying a HD MP3 player but need it to be able to do a couple things. My situation is that I need to be able to transport large files from my school computer (an Apple G5) to my home computer (PC). I was thinking of buying just a portable HD but maybe I could kill two birds with one stone with a HD MP3 player.

I already know about the ipod, and the older generation nomads fit the bill. I just wondering is there anymore. I'm weary of buying a ipod because it's a huge investment and I worry about it's built in battery. Can the battery survive 4 years of university?

As far as the battery goes for the newer iPods, it's rated for at least 500 charging cycles. Most likely you won't be charging your iPod everyday, so it should last a good bit of time

But just an FYI...

Laptops for Less plan to release a replacement battery for the 3rd Gen iPods in Oct.
