The Apple iPod looks great and all, but the Rio Karma has some awesome features:
20GB* HDD plays back over 330 hours of MP3 or 660 hours of WMA music (over 5000 MP3 or 10,000 WMA songs)**
USB 2.0 for fast transfers
Transfer content between multiple PCs
15-hour continuous playback with the rechargeable LiIon battery
5-Band Parametric Equalizer with pre-sets
Dynamic Playlist Generation
Auto-DJ intelligently finds, mixes and creates playlists from tracks on command
Included docking station supports: – Dual RCA Line-Outs to connect to most home stereo components – Ethernet port — Assign an IP address for networking capability – Auto-synchronization with host PC
Plays Ogg Vorbis *1GB equals 1,000,000,000 bytes **At 128kbps MP3, 64kbps WMA.
I like that it has ethernet and networking capabilites and plays Ogg Vorbis too. Does the Apple iPod play Ogg Voribs files at all?

If you can, listen to them both. It would be cool to get the Karma just because its different (and has nice earbuds) but everyone is raving about the iPod, so there has to be some truth to it ;)

I'm a big iPod fan...but some of the features on that Karma are just too sweet.
The battery life is really nice and the fact that the docking station has an ethernet port is definitely a plus, that is a really nice feature.

I love my iPod. I like the fact that it embraces its simplicity. I don't need equalizers, multiple computer transfering and all that jazz. I have nearly 30 albums on my iPod and It's still not halfway full. That's the reason I got it. I think audiophiles would like to tinker around with the Karma. But for me, I just need it to play and hold all of my favorite albums.

I also like how the iPod has a good variety of accessories. 3rd Party support is always a big +

Ok i am pretty tired of people who keep on saying they bought the IPOD and LOVE it, coz it holds so many songs etc. All the new HDD players do that... So stop making it out as if that is a unique trait in the IPOD... *Sob*...

Silly me. I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. Simplicity is what I praise about the iPod, not the fact that it holds so much (I know it's not a unique trait in the iPod.). You can't get any more simple than five buttons (play/pause, forward, backward, menu, and center.). Plus, I think the scroll wheel is neat-o!
