I have a client that is getting a lot of spam. They are getting the prescription drug and "enlarge your penis" spams. Some employees are getting 100 or more a day.
Their mail is off site pop mail through their web host. What can I do to block spam?
Most clients are Win98, 2000 and XP and there is one Mac Powerbook which needs it too.
I'm looking for whatever is easisest and most effective. It can be client side or server side. They have an NT file server and an unused server that I could install whatever I want on it.
Any suggestions?

McAffee makes a spam blocker that is intstalled on the client side and Spam Assasin can be installed on the server side from what I hear.

Spybot, Free, Rated a 4, Lots of updates, info, and even has info on most of the blocked stuff.
Also theres a link to spyware blaster.
These block all those little bots on your comp, that keep sending info about what you do, and where you go.
ONLY why to really stop the spam, is change your account(NEW NAME). Remember and keep all password you want, and rereg with the services.
1. first removes Spyware
2. Stops it from being put on machine, also has Active X block, be-aware.

ECA - spam is not spyware. You're talking about 2 totally different things here.
And most the info they GET to send spyware?
Is from you.
These 2 progs STOP popup's from getting your info, from you. And stop them gathering INFO of where you been and what adds they want to send you.
That and changing your Account name will stop 90%.
Another hint, NONE of your friends send HTML, most should be sending TXT only. Most spam blockers look only for HTML and block it. TRUE. Few accually check for words, as sex, drugs, inssurrance, money, ect. If these words are in the Email, they are blocked. This can be bad if a friend sends you a link about inssurrance fraud, sex scandal, and such.
try blocking it server side. what type of mai server are they using?
spam asassin works good.
another trick, is to have more then 1 account. And alot of ISP's give you more then 1 email.
Set one for those sites you log into or have to input information, and then a private one for friends and family.
This way, when strange email comes to the open account you take a quick look, and dump it, if nothing important is there.
Also, a neet option in Outlook express, NOT in outlook, is TXT only read, HTML wont open anything.
he's referring to a client though, which I would assume have their own email server. You dont want people within a company having multiple email addresses.
