Has anyone had this problem...

I just got my laptop back from getting repaired. I'm VERY happy with the service, with the one exception that they discovered that my hard drive was "bad" and decided to replace it - didn't seem bad to me. Oh, and they didn't backup/restore my data. Whoops... Good thing I had a backup, eh?

Anyway, I'm rebuilding the thing w/ an XP Pro w/ SP1 CD. I've put the "latest" touchpad driver on, but I'm discovering that it's often ignoring some of my "taps".

After moving the pointer, I can tap once, and nothing is selected. If I do it again, then it typically works.

Under the Mouse Properties Tapping tab, I've tried, Slow, Medium, and Fast, and it doesn't seem to affect it. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for a fix?

Much tahnks...

Try going into the systems control panel and fiddling with the touchpad settings. You will want to change the time associated with the mouse button clicks. It could just be that your time between the double taps is too little.

- Hope that makes sense.

Yup, it makes sense. Unfortunately, I have tried that. (The name of the control panel you're referring to is "Mouse Properties".)

And it's not just double-taps, but even single taps that it misses.

Thanks for your suggestions, though.

You've probably already checked this, but in the mouse properties, under the "Tapping" tab, there should be an option for ignoring taps while using the keyboard. Try unchecking that option, if it's not already unchecked.
