As colorful new $20 bills circulate around the nation, more consumers are finding out that the notes do not work on automated payment machines like those found in self-service checkout counters at grocery stores.

At least they are working on fixing it. Anyone held one of these yet? I'm tempted to goto the bank just to check it out.

Interesting. After an explanation by my bank teller why this new design was a "real" $20, I kept wondering, "so, what changed?" The coloring change is so subtle (especially to anyone who has been in other countries where the color differences and sizes between the different denominations is striking) that I wondered, "why did they bother?"

They are trying to make it harder to forge. I wonder if they did any studies on how well it actually works.
