So who else saw this movie opening night?
Any thoughts?
I think overall it was a great Trilogy :)
If you haven't seen Revolutions yet, go see it!

i'm going to watch it on friday. i'm honestly only going to go watch it because i already watched the first two films...might as well watch the last one. the second one didn't draw me in as the first one did. all those effects have been overused so much...it lost its magic.

I heard the fight between the mech things and the robots rocked, but that the ending was pretty lame. I am going to see it this weekend.

Haha ok we saw it AGAIN last night..so thats twice.
The things I do for my friends...I tell ya ;)
But anyway yeah the fight between the APU's (mechs) and the squids/machines was awesome.
I don't think Revolutions will have the same effect as the first one did, which is really to be expected. Revolutions just puts everything together. You sort of have to go into Revolutions knowing that it might not give you the same "wow" factor as the first one did.
But overall I was happy with it and just think that the Matrix was a great Trilogy overall.
Keanu really still can't act lol :) But thats ok

I personally think the mech fight against the machines was kind of cheesy during some points (mostly during the rally speech and the close up of the captain screaming).
I haven't seen the other two, but Revolutions wasn't great in my opinion.

I was actually checking out reviews last night. Basically, it sounds like fanboys will love it, the special effects are amazing (but nothing new, just LOTS of old stuff), the philosophy goes to sh**, and way too many loose ends are not tied up. For instance **slight spoiler alert** we never see the Creator (or whatever the old guy's name is) again.
But don't take my word for it, especially since I haven't seen it yet, check out Meta critic. Overall it got a blistering 51/100!

(You'll notice Elf got a 64. That's sad.)

One thing that we do have to take into consideration is that we should not consider this much as a stand-alone movie...but as part of a Trilogy....the third part of the story..
-------SPOILER ALERT--------
Brandon - if you're talking about the Architect (the old guy), you do see him in the last one.

True, but there are alot of people saying that it did for them what Attack of the Clones did for Star Wars. The worst part about multipart movie series is that if the last one doesn't tie up the loose ends and remain philosophically coherent, it retro-ruins the preceeding movies.
For instance, let's say Matrix:Rev ends with Neo waking up from sleep at the computer to realize everything was a dream. That would suck (okay, they could pull it off, amybe, but I'm talking the "it was all a dream... or was it!" cheesiness), and how could you ever watch the preceeding movies when you know the end of the whole story is a cheesy cliche'
Again, still haven't seen the movie, and I intend to watch it with an open mind, but the negative reviews make me a little less optimistic about it. Just waiting for there to be a decent seat available at the local IMax theater.

I just watched Matrix Reloaded at my buddies house tonight (going to see revolutions tomorrow) and I can say I love Relaoded. I sure hope revelations doesn't ruin the whole trilogy.

i just watched matrix revolutions and i liked it a lot. i would recommend not to read any of the reviews and just go watch it for urselves. it doesn't ruin the trilogy at all...at least imo.

I agree with you Jebus :) But I've talked to a lot of people about the movie and the Trilogy the past few days and so far it seems that its' receiving a very good response.
Did you see it yet Ian?

yeah I saw the movie and I liked it a lot. I honestly don't know what people are complaining about. The APC Mech war was unbelievable!

The Wachowskis wrote this as a trilogy before the first film was ever in the can. They should've took their hands off the keyboard after writing the first chapter. I thought I liked Reloaded because of the newness factor, but after reflecting on it it was just a bunch of running around with state-of-the-art SFX. The story was garbage. Revolutions was worse for me. I can't believe the machines and Zion can coexist in the end. That leaves an open-ended conclusion to milk sequels for all they're worth. Neo will come back from the dead and make more millions at the box office for the production company. That's just lame. The effects complimented the first film. They took over the sequels, and that just doesn't make good films. You have to have good stories to build on. Reloaded and Revolutions didn't. I'm terribly disappointed.

The people that complained about the ending didnt understand what happened.
Smith thought hed have the oracles forsight but 'couldnt see past the decision he already made' so he didnt understand killing Neo unbalanced the equation killing himself.
Neo's sittin there knowing he cant take him, Trinities dead and his eyes are burned out, it seemed the only logical decision really.
I heard someone speculate that the Machine killed Neo after smith entered his body which is what destroyed smith.... alternate ending i guess.
the one thing that bugged me was why Neo with his superpowers, gave up Trinity and his sight(and his life) to do it this way, when he could have taken her to the safety of the Temple (or whatever they called it) and helped at the last stand. They already described it as a chokepoint and Neo could defeat the entire army by himself.....
btw captain mechwarrior was badass of the movie and that entire scene was incredible. I want someone to create a machines vs. humans movie filled with visuals like that. Weve been teased by parts of terminator and matrix, how about a movie all about the machine war.

How come at the end of the original Matrix, NEO took over the agent (jumped inside of him) but didn't in the rest of the movies?
How come he only ONCE used his powers to pull those katana blades off the wall but never did that throught the rest of the movie? He could have opened doors in the matrix etc
How come if the EMP's destroy the machines, they didn't line Zion with them and blow one after the other?
Whats stopping the machines from finishing off the humans now that NEO is dead? DO machines really keep their words!?

i guess its ok to post insights. what i think is that when neo got taken over by smith...the "super" computer planted a virus that destroyed not only neo...but all of the smiths because they were all linked together. neo sacrificed himself to save zion...but also he didnt' really have a purpose anymore with trinity gone.
but i do agree...there were a lot of plotholes that ioman mentioned. maybe neo just forgot he could do that? maybe they didn't have enough emp's to go around....or they would of been too close to zion, it would of destroyed their defenses.

Not every story has a happy ending... I thought this movie was very entertaining and the directors did an excellent job with the material. It wasn't all just special effects. Its all about a new way of looking at things.
Here is some more of the meat behind the story in case you missed it.

Okay, I finally saw it at the IMax yesterday. I walked out not sure of what I thought of it, and since then have decided I absolutely hated it. I loved the effects. But, the philosophy collapsed into boring christianity allusions at every turn (if they were there before it was a hell of alot less apparent, which it how it should have remained), characters appeared and disappeared without any explanation, the love story just plain dead ends and has little impact on the outcome of the movie at all, and all the foundation that climaxes with Agent Smith's final dialogue with Neo is simply flushed down the toilet. All the dialogue was drawn out and pointless - 90% was "Don't do that!" "I will because I should." "You crazy!" or "I love you." "You must go away." "No I insist." "Oh, okay."
Ugh, hated it. I went in with an open mind. Decided rather than declare it bunk on the spot, think about it a little, but that just worked aginst it. Nope. Not getting reloaded or revolutions. I'll let the first stand as an unfinished movie in my collection.

Spot ON neuroking! The last two Matrix movies blew...then again there are very few movie franchises that live up to it's potential. They all, inevitably, spiral into mediocrity(eg. Alien, Star Wars, and so on). Maybe, except for LOTRs.

I am really looking forward to LOTR ROTK. I think it will restore my faith in multisegment movies. I didn't think Reloaded was THAT bad, mostly because I thought it was setting up some interesting twists for Rev. Now that I see that Reloaded might as well not have been made, Rev ruined my opinion of Reloaded.
