I have a bit of a dilemma... (ok choosing an mp3 player is never a real dilemma in the whole scheme of things, but it still bothers me none the less). I am looking for an mp3 player and have narrowed down the best possible canidates to the Rio Karma and The Zen Xtra.... However, I have a large and quickly growing digital music collection, and would like a rather luxiurous amount of HD space to work with... Rio once said they would release a 40gb model, but alas, all of that is in hiatus... I really like the Zen Xtra, but I have heard complaints that both the software, size of device, and OS are inferior to the Karma and other players... Should i forget those things and buy the Zen xtra anyway or wait... for possibly, a 40gb Rio Karma to be released.. I'd really like all of your oppininons on this...

Why is the iPod out of the question? Have you looked at iRiver products at all too?

Have you looked at the MPIO.com HD100, it's a 20gig unit. I have one of the flash memory players and the quality and software are great.

Ah, thats the other company I forgot to mention. I used to have their MPIO DMK 128MB MP3 player and it was the best I have seen at that time. Hopefully the same quality carries over into the HD100.

Ioman, I'm not really interested in the Ipod or the Iriver players because of thier price range... Also, The MPIO player (is that the company or just the website) does look rather interesting, but like I have stated, I'm looking for a player with at least 40gb memory.
Well, I dont have too much experience with the zen's but the nice thing about the Zen's is that you can upate (flash) the bios on them. Plus, creative seems to be good about putting out new drivers. My experience in the past with Rio products is that they are not that great.... The software development has been atrocious in the past for their old MP3 players. I wouldnt somewhat skeptical on their updates as well, since Sonic Blue (who owns the Rio products) seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth for about 2 years before resurfacing again this year.
If you ever bought a Diamond video card, they are the same company...you know what I mean about shoddy software then. :)
