Samsung YP-55V Firmware (or, Help I don't speak Korean!)

Hi,

Hopefully there are other owners of the YP-55V mp3 player out there. If you own it, i'm sure by now you've realized how big of a pain it is to skip through alot of files at one time.

Looking around, I found a new firmware update on www.yepp.co.kr, which seemingly enables, among other things, PLAYLISTS and FOLDER NAVIGATION. Obviously, these are signifcant improvements to the user interface.

Specifically, checkout:

Though the text is in Korean, you can definitely tell that these improvements have been implemented. So, of course, the question is why this isn't availible to the english-speaking market? Anyways, thought I'd let people know about this. I'm going to try to get a Korean friend to help me out with this.

One warning.
Many companies make slightly different versions in the different markets. Even the SAME name does NOT tell you if you have the same "revision" as was released in that country.

Well, it worked!

I emailed Samsung tech support, they emailed me the firmware files, and after a bit of playing around, I've got it all figured out.

Far from perfect, but now I can navigate through folders, and even create my own playlist. Sure saves a lot of skipping through individual songs!

I think he should make a wholy seperate webpage that he can link too that has a big long .sig rant of his choosing =)

I downloaded what I saw at this link. It installed a Samsung software on my windows machine. Looks good.

However, I do not have a yp-55v. I am planning to buy if the firmware updates are easily available...

Well i just tried out 1.51 worked fine....has some improvements in sound. but that is.
Now im looking forward for the new 5.5v but just cant find it. THere is a link at www.yepp.co.kr but unfortunately file is not on server any more.
Would really appreciate if sephora or some one else could send it to me (tbm3_ali@gmx.net) or a link where i can download it from.

Well I got the firmware and fired up the YP-55 while holding down the play mode and it loaded up as a "Player Recovery Device" in Device Manager as it's supposed to -- yet when I start the update software only part of it seems to work.. the progress screen comes up and seemingly completes, then it just sorta hangs there for a while, till I get a new screen saying the software could not or did not load, and I never see the secondary Update menu (with download options etc).

Anyone else have this problem and could you give me any advice on how to get through this..

Versions of Hardware can change. some dont work in certain areas, or on certain machines.

BTW, I also get the same error when attempting to run the update program with the drivers that came with the player out of the box.

Also, I noticed that the player changes in Device Manager from the Recover Device to Samsung YP and with that, it gets the exlamation point status.

Are you loading the recovery device drivers? When turning it on on recovery mode, my player was recognized by WIndows XP a second time, but this time as a recovery device or something. I loaded the CD again, clicked next on the Windows hardware wizard and drivers for the "recovery device" were loaded.

After that, the update program worked like a charm and fired up the 5.7 firmware into the player.

5.7 is nice, by the way. I like the folder navigation and the ability to resume playing on the same position after the unit is turned off. Great for ebooks, lectures, talk radio, etc. Player is even better now :)
