The new ipod minis are cute... But that's about it. They have failed to impress me on any real level...
I mean... it's small and it's got decent capacity... But way too expensive.
Now, what WOULD impress me would be if apple came out with a PDA with a similar form-factor as the mini, built-in bluetooth for a wireless keyboard/input device and wireless headphones.

They need to drop the price on these minis. For just $50 more I can get the 10 GB iPod. It's a no-brainer. Good idea in creating the mini, though. At the right price, I believe they could be in many people's pockets.

YES! I don't know why we haven't seen this. Battery life is there. Basically someone needs to make a PDA with 10, 20, or 40 gb storage.
I too am underwhelmed. The gb/price ratio doesn't make the slightly smaller unit worth it for me.
Look for some cool stuff coming out in the next few months though. There are several companies with HD mp3 solutions and several companies making tiny HDs. I was very impressed with MagicStor at CES.
Smaller aint better.
Even if you could have all the stuff you want in it.
THERE is a new storage medium coming out, its still small, but it looks very promising. Its a stable HD drive, thats as small as 1". Cant be damaged and there at about 10 gig(I think).
But even at that size, look at the difference. they could add ALOT more internally.
I sent an email to a couple of watch companies, about making there POCKET watches, with Data bank, or PDA's in them. they do it with wrist watches, the pocket watch has ALOT more room and could have much more of everything. and it could be set into a stand for data transfer.
