Ioman has requested that we ask any questions that we have about the Hdd100 so that the Philips representatives will be able to make a faq for us.

So I guess I will start it out:

1. Can Windows Media Player or any other Music database program be used to transfer music to the player?

2.Can the battery be replaced, or will there be a battery replacement plan provided by Philips?

3.Are more compression formats going to be supported such as OGG Vorbis or FLAC in the future?

I second all those points, and request:

1) Scrolling text for names of songs when highlighted

2) DMM software be re-written. Its highly unstable.

3) A battery replacement program like for the Apple iPod

4) A way to 'personalise' the HDD100 more, like replacing the Philips boot-up logo.

Yes your #4 is great idea. It would be great if there were some way to shut off completely all the animated junk that this player has there by making it much faster to run.

-Another suggestion would be to allow for PLUGINS. This way a user could customize the player for their needs.

Hello everybody,
another HDD100 owner is here :)
I watched this forum two weeks, because i got hdd100 for my birthday and i cerebrated about its returning due of errors, frozen and software.
Now i am getting be glad that i didn't do it, because it seems that last version of firmware has fixed and improved some function. And i am looking forward for new feature of program "HDD 100/ HDD120 EasyCopy" by user JantenHove, cause DMM is damn bad prog. and this alternative could be much better :)

I read around here about fixing track order issue, what was (and still is) big problem for me. I repetitively tried to format HDD100, reinstall DMM v.2 and upgrade firmware on v.6.6 , but it hasn't helped. In correct order are just tracks with number of tr. in tags, but other tracks of which filename begins on numbers-01,02,03.. are in downward order.
So if it's true what people wrote in this forum i don't know why it doesn't works me :(
Any idea guys?

And about requesting - all points which you mentioned are great, especialy scrolling long named songs and graphic modification.I enclose my request:

- Memory of last played track. it would be great if you could start to listen exactly in point where you ended. (I mean from begining of track, but much better would be if it started to play eg. in the middle of track where you ended)

- Support of CUE files for long time tracks like dj mixes, mix albums, etc.

- Increase rewinding speed of tracks what could be very useful for long time tracks.

You can try to delete the Data folder ( inside at the System folder ) at the Windows explore ( see all the hidden file option should be selected ) then Run the DMM V2.0 & Upgrade FW 6.6... then sorting problem solve

I really need the audio to be much louder. I purchased this to use outdoors and I can barely hear anything with the noise ouside.
Also, a case w/ a belt clip would be great. The bag is pretty worthless

I have a decent set of headphones - I turn the thing up quite loud, full volume is too much for me. Its the same with the iPod.

Well, I feel helpless ...I tried everything, but nothing works :-/
btw. what are differences among number types of hdd100? Is it just about distribution in other country, or there are some improvements? I've got hdd100/00
thanx in advance for whichever idea.

First of all, thanks to Ioman for the chance to let Philips know about our requests.

My request(question)list:
1. Replacement of the bad prog DMM!!!!!!
2. Better refresh rate on the player's screen.
3. Better battery level indication.
4. Player customization (fonts bootup logo).
5. Support for Ogg, Mp3pro.
6. Better headphone connector (a slight twist decreases sound performance alot) (too late for me though)
7. When player is off and turned on again after a while, start playing at the last position in the last song (Very frustrating when listening to livesets)
8. Replacement of the bad prog DMM!!!!!! :)

If the guys at Philips give me the format of their db file (index file) i could write a replacemt for the DMM (I even can send a copy to them to test etc... Now I'm trying to reverse engineer the file, but it would take me quitte a long time (I already reformatted my HDD100 30 to 40 times.
Ow, if somebody else knows the format, please contact me.

Hey Janten - Good ideas. Good luck with the DMM replacment, hope you keep at it as we ALL need something better than DMM. Its really REALLY bad. Infact, it wont run on 1/2 the PCs I test it on. Just crashes right out to windows :(

I've been trying to contact Philips via email, but they just say that customizing the HDD100 isnt supported. I'm trying to get hold of a guy at Philips who can give me the email address of some1 who works on the firmware team.....trying at least.

I know that there are no version different... please delete the "Data" & "_Data_" ( if have ) then running the DMM V2.0 .... during startup , you can observe the application doing searchinfg then re-build the db.... One Question... Any MP3 at the device... if not..... please transfer music to the device...

Dears,
The right way to get back to Current track order is
1) to delete the DATA folder in SYSTEM Folder
2) Download and install DMM v2.0
3) Start the DMM !!!!

To your other query,
there is no difference between various versions..
except :)
HDD120 = Harddisk of 20 GB

HDD100 = Harddisk of 15 GB

:)
regards
Venky

does anyone know how to delete all the songs on the HDD100 at once instead of 1 at a time?

Try holding down the delete button to see if it will ask you to delete everything. Or use the sync program with your computer and delete the directory from there.

1) replacement for DMM
2) louder internal amplification
3) better battery level indicator. a numerical% would be great. (ie 97%, 48%, etc)
4) OGG & MPC support (OGG is a must these days).
5) new or add-on remote with better tacitile response & 1 line lcd readout. sony makes great ones, copy them.
6) setting for headphone out to be a steady line-out (can probably be done via a simple firmware update).
7) above 192k line in record. a HQ vbr implementation would be welcome (192, 224, 256, 320). or better yet, VBR OGG/MPC.

I am trying to connect my HDD100 to the aux-input of my car-stereo. I have been able to use the earphone-jacket on other equipment I have, only having to adjust the audio-out to get deasent sound. With the HDD100 however I get very strange sound with hardy no voice (singing) at all. Is the signal from the HDD "different" in anyway (maby due to the remote controll)? Does anyone know of a way to convert the signal to get a deasent line-out signal?

After four days of really enjoying the hardware, here are some questions:

- Did anyone of you find out how to adjust the equalizer settings of the presets "on the fly", other than with that clumsy "dmm software"?
- Is there a way to avoid this strange metallic murmur on mic recrdings? When monitoring through headphones all sounds good, but the results are awful. Does the input volume affect the mic at all?

And if there are true insiders in here:

- Why is there no "SuperScroll" feature in the menus?
- why is the maximum quality for mic recordings limited to 64Kbps?
- why won't the "dmm software" let me copy tracks recorded through optical line in?
- Why do you guys think i am a dirty thief? At least i didn't get my hdd100 for free! why a "dmm software" anyway?

Is there any way that I can make the HDD100 play the tracks in the correct order?

You can download a Del.exe to delete database at wwwiphilips.com/support. And then run the DMM V2.0 to rebuild the database. You problem solved...

^ I went to the link you gave me but found nothing about a Del.exe. Could you please be more specific? Thanks!

Does the HDD100/120 series really not play music bought online?! Is there no DMM software/HDD firmware update for that? It would affect my purchase of one if it doesn't.

It would be really stupid if it didn't because it wouldn't truly compete with the iPod/iRiver/Rio MP3 players. It looks better than those but it should play online music.

I've been looking around for new software that would work with the HDD series. I don't know if RedChair has any yet. Also, is the firmware update v4 better than v6.6? I've heard that v6.6 makes it lock up.

Give me an e-mail at stormbreaker12@hotmail.com if you can help. Thanks

Hey guys I've noticed a weird problem lately with the DMM v2.0. The thing is I've purchased a new laptop with Windows XP Home Edition and when I transfer the mp3 files from my harddrive to my HDD 100 it shutdown automaticly (telling me to send error report). But when I was using the DMM v2.0 on my desktop pc with Windows 98 SE it works fine. I've also noticed that when I turned on my HDD 100 all my mp3 tracks were gone. But when I connected the HDD 100 to my PC my mp3 tracks were there :dunno . What do I do guys? If you can help I much appreciate it, thank you. In the meantime I am using Solon's program. Is there a way to add a playlist with his program, thank you again.
