TAP, TAP, TAP...Is this thing on?

Come on, jtfields and I can't carry all the load. No posts in 10 days. Is everyone happy with the device they've bought? We aren't looking anymore? We've given up on networked media devices?

Reviews, findings, what have you. Let's get some activity here.

Here's a question. I've found sources for the Pinnacle Showcenter and the Actiontec WHMD, but I can't find a U.S. source for the Neuston. Anyone have any ideas? I like the responsiveness of the Neuston team in their forums. Since all three devices share the same chipset and can use the same server software, I would like to buy the Neuston. But I can't find a U.S. store to sell me one. I'll have to settle for the Actiontec, who has no user forum at their site if I can't find a Neuston.

Is that Actiontec review coming soon? Will you test it with the native server and the two open source options?

Waiting with bated breath.

I'm hoping that review is coming soon syn. They told me on Jan 28th that they would be sending me one. Still haven't seen it. I emailed them on Friday to see what the deal is.

I'm working on getting a few more for review. I'm going to spend some time this week organizing what we have and getting some more review units in.

I'll check out that Neuston too.

Are you guys open to me post information on Media Center PC's in here or would you like me to move those to the computer systems forum? I figure that since media center PC's are some what related to this forum it might liven things up.

Thanks jfila, I appreciate the update.

loman: although it isn't up to me, I am very interested in a PC solution (it's the other option I'm considering) although I'm leaning toward a non-microsoft solution as much as possible. the HTPC is a real competitor to these devices and should be considered when making a purchase IMHO. I would like to see more info on this.

Ok cool, I will post more information on these types of products. I agree the Microsoft Media Center OS is not something I am interested in either.

Just wondering if the Actiontec thingie had arrived yet. I am waiting with bated breath, but finally had to breath. How about a little pinochle while we wait?

Baited with what?
Fish? No wonder you aint got a girl friend.
Peanut butter? Interesting, but mice like it also, and squirrels.
Chocolate? Girls love it. Wont get much work done, but tastes better.

Or it would have been if I had actually typed "baited." As you can see above, I typed "bated" which is an altogether different word even though it sounds the same.

So....

Next contestant!

Yes, that's the definition (i.e, I was holding my breath, waiting for the review), farther down the page you might have read:

"USAGE NOTE: The word baited is sometimes incorrectly substituted for the etymologically correct but unfamiliar word bated (“abated; suspended”) in the expression bated breath."

which, I think, explains your initial confusion.

Why do I have the feeling that I am being baited here?

In any event, where's the Actiontec review?!

OK... I have a good update for you.

I just finished reviewing the Linksys Wireless Media player and will post that review next week.

I also just received the Actiontec from FedEx about 20 minutes ago. I haven't plugged it in yet but I'm impressed by the exterior of it. It is a nice brushed aluminum finish and looks pretty sleek. They also included a wireless adapter for it.

I should have a review for that ready in about 10 days.

And what bated means is to HOLD/slow your breath.

But i still like the joke..

@jfila : Excellent! I am very excited as I'm guessing that this is the one I will pull the trigger on. I will finish tax season on April 15 and this will be my reward to myself. Last year it was a slimp3. However, if you pan it, I will have to continue my quest. What pressure I've put on you. Please give some thought to checking out the openshowcenter and oxyl~box open source software in your review as I bet many would be interested to see how it works with the Actiontec. Neuston is, unfortunately, not available for purchase in the U.S.

@loman and znaps: I figured and am not worried at all. There is nothing like some snappy word play to liven up a day doing taxes.

@ECA: Hope there is no offense taken on your part, I was just having fun. I'm guessing that you were too.

I try, to hard sometimes.
