I'm looking into buying a laptop, and the only ones I have found that have 5.1 sound cards are Alienware. Does anyone know of any other brands that have cards that support 5.1? I just bought Klipsch 5.1 Ultra's and I don't want to waste them =)

Have you considered a 5.1 PC card sound card? Do they make those?

You can also get a 5.1 USB card for it. We may be reviewing one soon from www.sharkacorp.com

A thought.
does 5.1 sound defeat the purpose of having a Portable laptop.
It would be nice at home to plug it in, for music?
Gaming isnt the best on a laptop.

ECA - I didn't explain myself fully =)
I will be a college student next year, and will set up the sound system in my dorm. The reason I'm getting a laptop is so I can take it to classesfor notes etc... but when I go back to the dorm, I want the sound for gaming and music =)
Its true, gaming isn't best on a laptop, but I'm willing to spend up to 5k on getting a really good one. I'd just like to spend less if possible. The alienware I'm looking at is going to run me at $4,500 or so, so I'm looking for any alternatives.
A 5.1 USB card sounds interesting, I will definetly look into that.
I havent heard alot of good things about USB sound. But for a laptop it could be a good choice.
ALSO, I suggest you pay good money for a security lock for the laptop.
There is a neet prog we did a write up on. It hides on your machine and cant be erased. When the laptop is hooked to the net, it send you its location threw EMAIL.
Combo locks, and common locks are nothing for a good crook, and cables are easy to cut. They are only a deturrant to the honest person.

Last time I checked Sager was the company that actual made the notebooks Alienware uses. Alienware doesn't actually manufacturer their own. So you can probably save a few bones and get the sager instead.

You nailed it on the head. I had a Sager 5660 with a P4 3.06 and it rocked any game I threw at it. It walso had a nifty CD player thingy that allowed you to play Music CD's even while the laptop was powered down.
happy hunting!

I haven't bought mine yet, I think I'll wait until early this summer. I'd also like to know where to get that program, that sounds very, very nice. If I do get one from overam, I'll be sure to mention you =)

That 5.1 PC Soundcard sounds like a great idea, are you open to that or do you want it built into the laptops?
I have yet to find a laptop with 5.1 sound built in. Even VoodooPC is lacking one.
