I'm considering buying 2 used Compaq laptop computers.
I think I may have to reconfigure the harddrive, how hard is this to do?
The reason for this is that I'm being told that these units we configured to work only within the companies network, however they do have hardrives and disc drives.
Thank you

What do you mean by reconfigure? Are you reformatting and reinstalling the operating system?

Just boot with a windows CD and format them puppies. Just make sure the hardware can keep up with the OS:
WinXp = 256MB Ram minimum or 512MB or higher reccommended
Win98/Win ME/Win 2K=128MB Ram or 256MB Ram or higher reccommended
For safe installation make sure you have a drivers Cd with all the needed driver avaialbe in case Windows doesn't PlugNplay nicely.
:D
486, laptop. NO
Pentium 1. NO
Celeron OK
P PRO...no
DO check the ram FIRST.
ALSO, there MAY be security on the HD for business purposes.
IF a FORMAT dont seem to work, you have to Low Level format.
You MIGHT check to see IF you can put in a Different(LARGER format) HD.
