I right-clicked on the YP-55 Removable Disk drive icon and selected Format...then it erased EVERY FILE on the YP-55. Now when I start it up, it says "Please Reformat!".
I think I need the original system file back...I didn't know that it would erase everything! Is there a way to get that file back?

Also, when I try to format with the YP-55 Format program, it doesn't work either. When I pull down the drop down menu for "Drive:" there are no drives there...it is a blank menu!

Of course formatting you YP-55 player will delete everything -- such is the purpose of "format" -- to restore a drive to a blank state, prepared to receive new data. The only way you can restore the mp3s or data you had on there then is to recopy them from outside sources, as you did the first time.
Not sure I can help you with the rest, as I seem to be having my own trouble upgrading the firmware and using format. I'm suspecting a long-time USB problem specific to my system tho...

Read the manual - to get it fixed you have to hold down the big > button for 5 seconds before you insert the cable into the MP3 player (after the other end is already attached to the computer).
Then it will come up as the Recovery device and you can format it. And yes, formatting deletes all the files on it. If you don't know what something does you might want to look it up first...I mean, the only thing you can do worse in terms of time to fix than formatting your computer accidentally is somehow mis-flashing your BIOS...
I have to say to EVERYONE,
REAd the instructions on RAM cards, CF and all the rest.
DONT use format, unless its in the prog thay gave to do it.
Much easier to just DELETE the files. Select ALL and press delete.

The irony of it is, that I DID read the manual. It told me to right click on the removable drive and select format. In the manual it says that the YP-55 Format program should appear, but that did not appear. Instead, the Windows format window came up.
I have restored it successfully now, but I did that my other computer, on which the YP-55 format program does work. I have no idea why the Format program does not recognize the YP-55 on this computer I'm using at the moment. I have tried uninstalling and installing the programs and drivers, but no luck. I suspected that it might have been because of the 5.7 upgrade, but I am not sure.
