ok, her it goes.

i have setup my own network at home. I have 2 computers hooked up at the moment. One of them has a CD-burner. the only way i can use the cd-burner is if my mom is logged onto her computer. now i can use the printer that is only hooked up to her computer through the network, but only if her computer is on. to use the printer, the computer doesn't have to be logged into, it just has to be powered up. now is there a way where i can do the same thing with my mom cd-burner? oh, i have a
D-Link router, and the one of the best ethernet cards of its time. My network is not wireless, if that would effect anything. can anyone tell me how to network my moms cd-burner so that i can use it from other computers. thanx.

As far as I know, you're out of luck. A CD burner is only operable when the computer is on, and as far as I know, you can't network them. They aren't like a printer, networkable and usable without the host computer, seeing as how they get power from the PSU when the computer is ON. Like I said, I've never heard of or seen anyone using a 'network' CD-burner, aside from like servers and stuff.
