As I expected, Apple is looking at IBM's Power PC 4 CPU, a 64-bit design, for its future needs.
Story here.http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,3959,543317,00.asp
The processor, dubbed, the GigaProcessor Ultralite (GPUL), is a light version (think Celeron) of IBM's industrial heavyweight PPC4 that is found in some of IBM's most powerful server, including the Regatta.
Hopefully for Apple, if this works out, Apple will finally be able to compete in the future 64-bit arena, to say nothing of increasing performance which is sorely lacking of late with Motorola's G4 CPU.
