I just received an e-mail back from VPR Matrix about if they are still in business and if they will be releasing new computers in the future. When I asked them about this, I offered to keep it off the record if they wanted to but they didn't mention this in their reply. So I am assuming this should be public knowledge:
"...thanks for the email. I can shed some light on your questions and I can also tell you that vpr Matrix will be back on the Best Buy shelves in the future. The reason for our disappearance now and again on the Best Buy shelves is that we are a different kind of PC company. Being owned by Best Buy, our goals are different than a PC manufacturer who wants to deliver a steady stream of new products to multiple sales channel partners. Because of these multiple channels they can build products to a forecast and then when some channels are slower than others, they can shift their inventory around to make sure it sells out before the next models come in with improved specs, thus devaluing the current models. With vpr Matrix, we exist to fill gaps in the assortment on our shelves as determined by our retail buyers. The goal is to always have a wide variety of brands and models on our shelves. But, when we do build vpr Matrix models to fill these gaps, because we don't have alternate channels to redistribute inventory if needed, we always build very conservative numbers of computers to make sure they sell through in a timely fashion.
As you can understand, I can't tell you when we'll return, but again, just know that we will be back...."
