Is there any way to make my old VPR Matrix 180R accept a newer Intel BIOS so that I can upgrad from that slow old 1.8ghz P4? It just doesn't want to work and VPR's help line says this could "damage the mainboard". I've repaired a corrupt BIOS before. So, can anyone tell me if this is possible? Current BIOS string as reported by CPUZ:
BT84510A.31T.0005.P04.0206181600

*bump*
NO.
A laptop is the most propritary thing you will EVER buy.
The mobo was designed ONLY for that chip(generally), that Bios(generally) and anything else for that 1 unit. Even the same company making a newer unit, WONT fit(99% of the time) anything you have.
Best suggestion for ANY laptop, DONT PLAY with it. Its NOT expandable or hardware upgradable. What was made for it at the time of purchase it ALL you will ever have. This is true for 99.9999% of ALL laptops.

Erm, it's not a laptop. It's the 180R VPR Matrix desktop. 1.8ghz P4 400mhz FSB, 512mb PC2100, 60GB WD ATA100 7200RPM... etc. Anyway, I'm just gonna sell it anyway. Got sick of messing with it, lol.
well,
did you find the info on the 180 on the VPR site, and did you find your bios info and go look at there site.
Odds are, you wont be able to get much more out of it.
Mobo's are designed for certain chips now...Intell or amd.]NOW the fun part...You SHOULd be able to go up to the 2.4-2.6...
But it depands on the mobo more then anything.
Look in the bios, as those intell boards had an AUTO CPU ID.
It set the board for the CPU speed automatically.
There may be an updaye to the bios, but its easier for you to find it then us.
You will do the same thing. Go to intell and look up your bios, Version number and such... It should tell you if it handles anything else.
