View Full Version : Laptop won't boot-up
My laptop won't boot-up, I'm using a emergency boot disk that came with my 2 week old laptop. IBM Think Pad 365X.
I put the emergency disk in held the control down selected safe mode then tapped F8 & <a:> came up. I tried to change to c: but a message came up "not ready reading drive A:" "enter correct name of command interperter (eg. C:\COMMAND.COM)
Does this mean anything to anyone??????
If you boot from the Emr disk, you should have Some DOS commands on the disk. Sounds like these are not there.
DO BOTH systems have the same OS on them????
sounds like you lost your boot on the HD.
IF,,,,IF you do, you can SYS C:, IF you have the SAME OS on the machines, DONT do it IF you dont.
PS,
Odds, are you may have a virus.
DONT stick that floppy BACK into the other machine, GET ANOTHER DISK.

if your IBM is really just 2 weeks old, contact the manufacture and it might be a serious HD problem, good luck i guess.
Thank you so much!!! I'm sending it back today. Don't want to overkill with my problems ....but it's gotten worse. So bye, bye refurbished laptop.

I would try reinstalling the OS on top of itself to see if that fixes it too. But sending it back under warranty to have it looked at is probably your best option. I just hope the do not delete your stuff while working on it (which is often the case).
Oh how perceptive you are.....I do believe that I did just that! Being a novice hitting & clicking in frustration. I've definitely messed it up worse than it was. From what the diagnostic test states, I've already wiped the hard drive clean. So, all I can hope for is a refund & my good ole webtv.
