Hi,

I am trying, and currently failing, to build a second PC. I have been trying to get the damn thing to pass the POST all day. Finally, a problem arose which I can not solve.

The Question: Is my mobo kaput? I get 8-beeps during POST ( with AMIBIOS). This should mean 'cannot write/detect to VRAM' or generally that the video card is dead. However, I have tried 2 video cards - both of which work perfectly well on my first PC. One card is a very old PCI card the second is a GeF2 Ti AGP card. I have tried reseting CMOS. What else could be wrong?

I did read somewhere that 8-beeps may also be related to floppy controller but do not remember where. Doh.

System Details:
Mobo: k7ama (has AGP x4)
CPU: Athlon 1200
Case: Grey

regards
Moose

I just keep getting the 8-beeps. I know this error is a non-fatal POST error but as the monitor dosnt even come out of standby I cant see anything. Is there any other way to tell if I am in BIOS?

Hitting DELete key while booting.

IF you dont get it, then good chance its the video card, or a mis-config on the board.

It is most likely the AGP port on the MOBO itself. Return the MOBO for exchange I say

Agree...
Something screwed up, if you cant get there.
