So I bought a Dell Inspiron 7000 from an auction for 20 bux. It was used by some company, and they decided that they needed to wipe the hard drive. I don't think they did it completely though cuz it still tries to load NT. It will come to a screen where it asks me to log on, and then it goes into stand by mode and won't come out. So I need to know how I would go about re-formatting the hard drive, and then re-installing some sort of windows on it. It came with no cd's/discs or manuals, and I'm not the most computer savvy person, so I'm kinda in the dark.

i just advise that if you get an operating cd of some sort like windows 2000 or xp or whatever you want, and supposedley if you start it up from there with the cd in, it should install the windows into the system. Another option is that you could get a new hard drive but that costs even more money. Those are the only ways i can think of.

I downloaded the win2k boot disc off of freepctech, and it still does the same thing. Anyone have any other suggestions that might help me out some. Thanks

I would recommend buying Windows XP and then booting off the XP CD to reinstall the OS.
