Gmail is an experiment in a new kind of webmail, built on the idea that you should never have to delete mail and you should always be able to find the message you want. The key features are:
Search, don't sort.
Use Google search to find the exact message you want, no matter when it was sent or received.
Don't throw anything away.
1000 megabytes of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message.
Keep it all in context.
Each message is grouped with all its replies and displayed as a conversation.
No pop-up ads. No banners.
You see only relevant text ads and links to related web pages of interest.

This is the big news of the day...
Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Watch, said Gmail is just the beginning. Sullivan wrote: "Imagine next year that Google provides anyone with 5 gigabytes, 10 gigabytes or more of storage space for personal files."

Californian Senator Figueroa describes the service as being a bit like "having a massive billboard in the middle of your home".
The targeted adverts would use key words after scanning your private e-mail - posting adverts for pharmaceutical products, for example, if a message mentions a medical condition.

Yahoo now has 100 MB of free space, And you can even send large files on it. I heard Hotmail is also heading in this direction........Jim :vivi
I *think* that hotmail only upped theirs to 25MB? I maybe be wrong. Yahoo, along with upping the space available to 100MB, they released a re-designed interface to their webmail. Pretty cool

Hotmail hasn't upgraded their service yet! Which is very annoying...they're supposedly upgrading user's accounts by alotting 250MB of space to each user. They're allowing 10MB attachments instead of the lame 1MB. All of this should be implemented before Fall, according to a Hotmail Member Service E-mail I got. What size of attachments does Gmail allow?

Ya Gmail, when it goes public, I'm sure will have numerous problems and may end up limiting the number of new users or e-mail space? The demand is going to be so high...

Gmail Tools.

I found some more interesting tools to make your Gmail experience smoother —
* G-Mailto: Sets Gmail as your default mail program in Windows. So when you click on a mailto:// url, your favourite web browser will open up a page with Gmail's Compose window. Pretty nifty.
* GTray: Windows system tray notifier for new Gmail mail.
* GmailCompose: A Mozilla Firefox extension to open the Gmail compose window with the click of a button.
* Gmail Loader: Import your existing mail into Gmail!
* Other supporting apps to help move to Gmail.

Good stuff TG. Thanks for the linky. I use my Gmail on a daily basis but usually only to mail stuff from my desktop to my laptop when I need to be mobile.
I had some problems with the login returning an error this week. I would enter my user/pass and it would return something like http:/gmail (that's not a typo).
I also find that emails I send to myself will often take hours to come in. Hopefully they're still working on it because there certainly are some bugs. Oh- and I absolutely hate that it doesn't send your deleted mail into a trash folder - it just crosses them out.

Sometimes its nice to be able to delete stuff ... No reason to archieve every single piece of spam you get for years and years ... that's just goofy!

Some companies will do anything for a buck ... include filing for patents after the company accounces the name of a new product but before they submit a patent ... WTF is wrong with people, can't come up with their own ideas so they try and steal other people's...
The Mountain View, Calif.-based company announced Gmail on April 1 with much fanfare and registered the trademark six days later. But between March 30 and April 7, three other parties filed for rights to the name, and they could be considered beforehand.

Yeah, I've found a lot of ppl wanting Gmail from me, so I've got a plan in place. The 1st five invites go out to those who want one and the 6th goes to make a new account, with which to get another 6 :rock I think however that 5 gmail accounts is enough for me.

Guys, I wouldn't send invites to people you don't know. I am getting an increased amount of spam from people with Gmail accounts and I am sure its because people are giving away invitations recklessly.
