I am about to buy a HDD120 and was wondering if you can edit song names and artists directly on the device. I also heard about the buggy firmware and was wondering some advantages and disadvantages of each one.
Thanks,
John

Yes you can edit the mp3 tags with the Philips DMM software, But I would use another mp3 tag editor program to get your files tagged properly before you load your player.
I recommend 'MP3TAG' at http://www.mp3tag.de/index.html
It's FREE.
The HDD100/120 needs complete id3 tags on every mp3 file loaded to function properly.
Also before you do anything download the latest firmware and DMM software from the Philips website. Forget about the software on the included disk. Install the DMM software first and then flash the new firmware to the HDD120.
The latest firmware is very stable for me. Others are having pause/skip problems but I have not. Track order has been a problem for many. I reformated the player drive with the DDM software, put the new firmware on and the track order was fixed after that.
One more thing...If you have a pentium 4 with hyperthreading processing, this will cause the DMM software to crash. This must be turned off in the bios for DMM to work properly.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick response. The files transfered from my computer all have ID3 tags but what about music from the Line In or the Digital In. Can I name the songs I transfer from that directly on the device?

You know I have never tried that but I'm assuming you can select the track after you press the 'recordings' button along the left side of the DMM window. Select the recording track and click the "ID TAG" button at the bottom. The ID tag popup window will then allow you to enter the id3 tag data for that track or file. Then save to exit.
